As topic states, looking at possibility of moving the tie rod end to the top to the spindle arm instead of bottom. I know it would require some machine work to use stock tie rod ends. Basically drill out hole, put in taper adapter sleeve. Thinking of this for two hunting buggies that still run ifs and both lifted about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 using springs and or spacers. Not getting crazy bump steer now. Needing to rebuild front on 1 and was thinking of doing this at same time. Protecting the tie rod end a bit better is the main goal.

Anybody done this? Seen it done? Epic failure after trying? Thoughts? Flame suit is on.

You won’t have bumpstop now, but you will if you flip the tie rod end on the knuckle.
I assume you meant bump steer, if not bump stops are in place. I am going to do some measuring this weekend on the 2 door. From rough measurements if I move tie rod end to top of the arm it puts it back where it was before lift, albeit inverted. Thanks for the comments, looking for feedback, as at the point it is an idea not sure if it is good or bad. :)

No, it doesn’t put it back where it was, it changes the relationship between the arc of the lower a arm and the arc of the tie rod- just like having a panhard rod and drag link on a different angle on a solid axle front end. Bumpsteer is the result. If you raise the tie rod on the knuckle, you need to raise the tie rod at the idler arm/steering box the same amount to maintain the relationship.
