First off, I would like to thank you guys for the help I have gotten in several projects by prowling the boards here. Y'all have saved me a lot of headache and heart break!

Anyway, my current focus for my trail rig is rock sliders. I plan to use some 2x3 1/4" wall tubeing I have laying around for the slider, but am wondering about the best way to attach it. I am thinking bolts to the frame instead of welding, and that is where my question arises. My rig is a 1990 Toyota pickup, so it has a boxed frame. Should I still use plate on both sides, or just bolt through the frame, not adding any plate? Since this is really more of an opinion question, can you please give me some why vs why nots? And no, melting some metal is not out of the question, just not preferable.

Thanks in advance

You can weld some nut plates to the frame or use a sleeve through it so the bolt doesn't crush the frame
