So where is a good source for SM420 rebuild kits? I take it most of the parts are no longer available from GM? <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

Bearings and seals are all availble thru any good bearing house. I get mine from Motion Industries in Stockton, Ca. The synchros can be had thru Napa Auto parts, they'll probably have to order them, but they have them.

I have a SKF bearing catalog and they actually list bearings for SM420 applications up to 1972. GM stopped using the transmission in their production line around 1967 but other companies used the same transmission up to 1972 in various odd industrial and military applications.

I got the SM420 yesterday and all of the clutch stuff for $200. Now I have a lot of questions. The rear of the tranny has what reminds me of an axle bearing retainer. I am assuming that the tranny is from a 2wd and what is there comes off? Is there some sort of output shaft that goes on it. How does the tcase go on this tranny? I know there is an adapter that goes between the tranny and tcase but there does not seem to be a shaft that comes out of the tranny and that would go into the tcase. I have seen the adapters but does anyone have pictures of the trannies and the steps to taking them apart to mount them to the tcase? Any help would be great.
