I can get ahold of a rebuilt 350 for $250 and an sm465 for $100, but my question is it a direct bolt up or will I need some form of adaptor? What bellhousing will I need, and what t-cases are direct bolt up?

I would prefer not to use adapters if possible, I can wait to find an sm 400 if I need to....

Well, GM used that combo in full-size trucks from 1969 until 1987 or so, so I would say that it's a bolt up. NP205, NP208, a few NP203s and Dana 20s were attached to the 465s.

Don't for get to get the right bellhousing for the trans. If you go with the NP205 you will need the adapter and shaft. It is alot easier if you get the SM465 and NP205 toghter. But there is a TON of them out there so it souldn't be too hard either way!

I did my first set of research on orc and was misled by them talking about teh oversized bearing and then mentioned adapters, which is teh one MAJOR thing I want to avoid if possible. Thanks again guys.

I know I belong on the cruiser board but I am doing a 400 horse 327 to sm465 swap as I am posting this. I went to a junk yard and found my sm465 out of a 79 1ton 4x4 chevy truck. It was mated to a np203, I grabed the adapter and shaft off of it too and have no use for them. I live in Houston and would be more than willing to give you these if you needed them, I also can tell you where to find the np203. As the others have told you an older style bellhousing will fit, if you need part #'s for clutch components I can get you those; if you are going to use centerforce. Email me if you are interested. It may say Toyota on the outside but it is Chevy under the skin.

cool, I will write down your screen name and track you down if I need to. it is coming with a new flywheel, clutch and preasure plate, one 4wd 465, one 2wd 465 for parts, and possibly even bellhousing, I will find out tonight the only problem is a slight noise, possibly one of the bearings. Oh, I am picking up all of this for about $75
