does anyone in california know the smog law? i have an 85 bronco 2 and i want to put a 302 in it. does it have to be from an 85 and newer? or can it be older or whats the deal? any helps would be appreciated i know some of you have done it. if older do u have smog problmes?

Plus you will need to recert the install. Best to talk to someone at the Smog Board, request all the info you can ahead of time. Try to find someone at the board to work with every time, build a relation with him makes life easier.

there are more issues. The engine had to be offered with the type of tranny (Auto or Manual) in that year. Also the weight class of the engine from the donor has to be the same as the vehicle its going into.

Theres a gob of stuff, at the link below, but your best bet is to talk to a Smog Referee beforehand and work out the details.

Keep a paper trail of your meetings and what you were instructed to do. Names, dates etc.

Actually, you can put an engine from a lighter duty vehicle (Car) into a truck, but you can't put a heavier duty (1 ton) into a lighter duty (Car or SUV). Basically, lighter duty vehicles have higher smog requirements than heavy ones....So you CAN put in the Mustang 5.0......At least according to the regs.....The referee may be another matter. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
