I searched the archives, but didn't find much on rebuilding the front end. I actually need to pull it apart to install my ARB and new gears, but am new to the live axle arena (former IFS bastard child ) and am looking for any help I can get on this. TIA

That is one of the best write ups I have seen, One thing real nice about it is it shows how to take a Birfield all the way apart to clean and check it for small cracks!!

Yeah, it seems pretty good, but I still don't know how many pounds of pull I'm supposed to see on the scale. If you don't know what shim combo you need, how do you figure it out?

I think it is like 8-12lbs.
Look in a Toyota manual (Chilton's ext.)

Right from the Toyota Service Manual, 6.6 to 13.2 lbs. Shims are trail and error. If you are running big tires go towards the high side of the pre-load.

Thanks Oops.

Guess I need to add another manual to my SAS cost. My 89-95 Chilton doesn't say a dern thing about those knuckles! Oh well nothing like buying a CD you only like one song from, or a manual you only want the front axle info from.
Wait! who wants to hooka-brotha-up and scan their manual pages and send them to me?

yup, it's a Costco pack alright! I'm hoping 40 terrycloth towels will do me... if not, it's back to Costco

Best write-up I've seen so far. Especially nice since I printed it on a HP color laserjet here at the office! ...and put it in my binder. Nice pics! Thanks for the links!
