The Tahoe National Forest was out on Cadillac Hill and other parts of the Rubicon Monday and Tuesday with a Spider excavator.

They did some really questionable work.

There's a full write up on my website along with what's up with the Memorandum of Understanding between all the Rubicon agencies:

The first pic clearly shows they altered the trail by moving the rock base, so now there will be a soil erosion probablem at the start of winter.

Doug,

Somebody had to have worked with him on their concerns about the trail and what areas he needed to repair.

I read you found out about before the work started, but had no input. Who did have input?

Undecided on work done as posted and on Dougs site, however there are valid concerns with trail between morris rock and the lower hair pin. One vehicle wide and the outer edge is crumbling away. Also one of the few one lane sections of trail with difficult room to pass oncoming traffic.

I don't know if anyone had input and that's the problem. The new MOU between the agencies requires cooperation for planning and maintenance.

Joe emailed a group Monday the 18th that work would start Wednesday 20th. My plan was to go in Thursday the 21st to watch it work and return Friday for a longer run to the springs.

On Tuesday the 19th, Joe re-emailed that work would start on Monday.

I was never concerned about the work as I expected him to do the right thing even though he was starting way late in the season for dirt work.

On Friday we saw some markers along the trail between Observation and Morris. Again, I didn't think much of it. I don't know when he was out there placing markers.

Joe said he wasn't aware that Cadillac was in his forest and when he learned that it was, he wanted to get out there before winter to fix things.

They were planning on going down to the swamp area west of Miller Creek to work on drainage. I don't think they had a plan, hydraulic analysis or outside input.

Bob Sweeney was there on Monday morning and we all three agreed there was work to do below Morris but I think it was good that Joe didn't have time with the storm moving in. Vickie is aware of the issues on Cadillac and will be working on a plan over the winter to put in to a grant in January/February.

As stated on my website, Joe wants to close all side trails that allow large groups to pass each other and get the trail down to a single lane.

This isn't over.
