I was just thinking, that instead of sitting around at home over spring break, I should try to make some sort of wheeling trip. Hopefully hook up with some people from the board
A few problems though...I'd have to do all my wheelin during the week, which makes it hard to find people to hit the trail with.
My truck is pretty mild, and I'd have to drive it home, so I'd need to stick to fairly mild trails too Plus I'd need to keep to a tight budget.

Keeping that all in mind, does anybody have any recommendations for somewhere with a day or two's drive from Oklahoma that might make for a fun trip?

I like the sig. Go to Moab a fairly stock vehicle can do lots of really fun and scenic trails there, and it is totally different terrain than you have in Oklahoma.

Ditto on Moab. I might even be there. No, wait. I will have a one month old then, so I am pretty sure I won't be...

moab is kick ass and plenty of mild trails. i have never been to disney or potau[ i think i spelled it wrong] but i have been to clayton. there are all kind of trails and places to camp out. and its still in the neighbor hood. but if you can swing the gas for moab go, you wont regret it. it is just a blast. my 2 cents mike

Maybe we hook up and hit a trail sometime. You go to Disney much? I've been once, but didn't get to do much wheeling...I'd like to get back sometime.

Moab does sound good. I have family in Colorado Springs, I could stop off there overnight even...hmm...gears in the old noggin are turnin' now...

I've been to Clayton (a few years back) and Disney (didn't get to wheel much there though), but I haven't been to Poteau. Whatever the case, they're all close enough that I could make a weekend trip, I was hoping to get away and go somewhere that would be a little more of "road trip".

Moab is a blast. When I lived in Cedar City I was only a 5 hour tow away, and know I regret that I didn't go there every other weekend. the place is just fawkin unbelieveable.

sound like you are on the right track. you can go in state on any weekend. if you pack your shit up and go to moab you will never forget it. i mean you will be glad you did, and if you don't you will always wish you had. if you can swing it go!!!! as you get older and find that you don't have near the free time that you have now. i have three kids and a wife now. and i wish i had done more road trips when i was younger. and i probly did more than 99% of the people in this country. just do it!!!!!! my 2 cents mike

I agree with all the reccommendations for Moab. We wheeled there over spring break one year, it was outstanding. There were a few of us that brought our mountainbikes as well, I also reccommend that if it's something your're into. Don't know what your budget is, but we found a campground that gave us a group discount. For a mere $5 a night, we got firepits, bbq grills, covered tables, electricity, and showers. It was great!

I could probably dig up the name of the campground if you need it.

Enjoy your trip!

Loknlod762, let me know if you do go to moab. I would love to get out there sometime and try my truck out on the rocks.

BTW, I would also like to get up to Oklahoma within the next few months and try out some of the trails.

If Clayton is to close and Moab is to far then come to San Angelo. We are in central west Texas and If you are a rock crawler then we have what your looking for. No long trails but several large play grounds. That I guarentee you won't be able to climb all of them.
