There are several threads about Stak cases popping out of gear or making noise. This is not another one of those. I am looking for success and/or failure stories for the STAK MINI TRANSFER CASES.

I have a Stak Mini 3 speed that has had some problems in the past that seem to be fixed. The case now has about 200 miles of street, rock crawling, dune running. We recently opened it up to check on things, all looks well so far.

I dont want to step on anyone's toes or make this a sales pitch/complaint thread, just looking for real first person info on the MINI cases. Post up how long you have had it, what ratios it is, 2 speed or 3 speed, rig specs, how much use is on it, any problems and if you love or hate it.

I'll go first:

My buggy is roughly 3,500 pounds, 390HP Turn Key engine, NV4500, Stak Mini 3 speed (4.29:1 / 2.44:1 / 1:1). The case is about 2 years old with about 1 year of little use on it now. It had a problem with a gear falling apart and some trouble staying in gear. Both of these seem to be fixed now. I love the ratios, but am a little nervous of it holding together.

My dad and I both run Stak Mini's. His set up is
Scout/Buggy on rocks, tuned 5.3,4l60e and 44" rockers with the 5.22/2.97/1 gear ratio(purchased early 09). He did have problems with it popping out of gear but sent it back to Stak and it has been good ever since. Mine is a TJ/Buggy with tuned 5.3,turbo 400, 42" rockers and the 4.29/2.44/1 and I have had zero problems with mine but I have only been out a handful of times(purchased late 09).

Running 5.3/4l60e. 3speed mini, 5/3/1, D60,14bolt 42 rockers on staz, ORI's, baby, on a 114 inch wheelbase yj. Sent it back to Stak, still pops out of 3 low.:(

Which lever is popping out and under what conditions? On mine the rear axle would pop out of high range when engine braking. We discovered the gears were not engaging all the way. After taking the case apart and shaving one of the shims it now has full engagement and has not popped out of gear. I believe this is a machining problem with the earlier cases. You should be able to feel positive engagement through the lever, compare the feel of the levers that don't pop out compared to the one that does and report back.

I'm not as concerned about the popping out problem as I am with keeping the gears in one piece. Like I said, I was able to correct mine by making some internal changes. It seems so far like I am the only one that had the weak gear problem? Hopefully mine was a fluke, the gears are good and it will hold up. Post up if you have had strength issues.

I'm running a Mini 3 speed 2.97/5.22 behind a 4.0L and a NV3550. I've had it pop out of 3:1 front when doing a front burn on the rev limiter a few times. The only other issue I've had is that half of the time the rear doesn't want to disengage to do a front burn. I'll have to pop out the front, pop out the rear, and then pop the front back in. It's annoying, but not so much that I've felt like pulling it out and sending it back to Stak. That thing is heavy and I don't want to fawking move it :flipoff2:

Center lever pops out of 3 low. The first time I had it apart I remedied the partial engagement problem that you are speaking of.
