I have a 91 4runner. When the engine is cool the engine starts no problem. Drive it for about a hour shut if off and the engine won't start until the starter cools off. What could I do to fix this. It has a heat sheild. 3.0 V6 engine.
i am having the EXACT same problem with mine. took it to many different shops and they dont even know what the deal is. i also got a brand new (not rebuilt) starter and optima battery and still does it.
I think heat-sink (sp?) is the term
You're looking at the cost of a shop manual, rebuild kit,
and some elbow grease.
Chances are good that it's just the soleniod... maybe more tho.
Check the wires for corrosion/contact.
IMHO starters have a POS ratio of (3:1) - everytime you buy one (be it new, OEM, or rebuilt) you run the risk of something failing... Again and AGAIN !
