Last weekend after breaking a birf I noticed my steering box was leaking pretty good. Fixed the birf and figured it was the lines going into the top of the steering box so tightened them and went out to do a little wheeling. I kept checking it and it continued to leak, the harder it was to steer the more fluid would come out. When I got home and started to park it it would only turn to the right and come back to center but wouldn't turn left any more than center. It appears that the leak is not from the lines but somewhere else, like around the 4 bolts that hold the part the shaft comes out of.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a box fail and if so are they rebuildable? I'll look into it a little more tonight.
I don't believe it has anything to do with replacing the axle as I've done that a few times and never had a problem like that before. It's not binding anywhere.

There is a nut on top that can work loose and leak. I had mine loosen up and had p/s fluid everywhere. But with your steering symptoms, it could be the hydraulic control valve on the front of the box.

Mine started leaking this summer, and I could feel a "shudder" in the steering. They are rebuildable, though I chose to have a local shop rebuild it, rather than doing it myself. That was a little less expensive than buying a rebuilt one at the local parts store.

This shop also sells used ones, if you wanted to go that route. See them at <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> www.offroadsolutions.com/products/usedparts.htm )

There is a nut (17 mm) with an adjusting screw inside that can come loose and spew PS fluid. This is on the top of the box. Had it happen as well as some one else.

As far as rebuildable, they is a rebuild kit available. I heard it is around $115. Not sure where, though.
