street friendly freeride 2.4 tire?

i bought a second bike, HARO shift R5, and it will be my main commuter for awhile. im looking for something 2.4-2.5 wide that'll do well on the 6 miles of pavement and not completely suck on the 8 miles of gravel and clay roads that i ride.

im currently running a WTB 2.3 velociraptor rear with a SWOOP 2.4 on the front.

A 2.4" tire that works on both the street and gravel/clay is a bit of challenge. I would look at some of Maxxis offerings.

The Ardent is a light weight high volume tire:

The Holy Roller is a possibiliity to:

Or High Roller in semi slick:

Bikes are no different than the 4x4's we drive. BFG AT's or boggers, both great tires but they both have their limitations. Mountain bike tires are very much the same. I would choose a smaller XC tire (do you really NEED a 2.4-2.5" tire) or the Maxxis high roller semislick if you just gotta have a high volume tire.

the bike came with 2.1's and i always felt like i was sinking in the clay shit. i really like the feel of the 2.4 or wider in the mud/sand. im leaning more towards the semi slick because the shit is so soft im usually halfway up the sidewall most of the time or im on pavement.
