Wondering why a street sweeper is a class 3 (even with a believe an 18" barrel) and the saiga 12 is not... it only carries 2 less rounds? both are "mag" fed, both are semi auto? any ideas?

Because it looks evil and was in a bunch of movies carried by bad guys. No reasons other than that.

The ATF can classify anything it wants as a destructive device.

street sweeper(made by SWD) was a copy of the south african Striker 12(which was available as a pistol, SBS, or regualr shotgun) is a fixed drum fed, spring assist shotgun. Working like a double action revolver, it could dump 10rds in less than 3 seconds...there is a rifle variant that is still just a regular gun...labeled The Ladies Home Companion, it is chambered in 45-70.
these toys were only $3-400 when new and now can still be found for $1000-1500, but be sure they have the right paperwork as there are a lot of them that were never registered during the amnesty period. Strikers will easily bring $2-3K and are definitely superior as far as quality goes...
