Just how strong is the toyota 8 inch axle? I hear alot of people make generalizations about the strength of toy axles, but how do they rank compared to other axles? On the front I know the birfield is the weak point, but just how strong is the rest of the axle? And as for the rear axle, would you consider it to be stronger than a D44, or not?

Also, if you eliminate the birfield with something like redline's kit or built a axle with D44 or D60 knuckles, just how much strength will you gain. I am especially interested in the D60 knuckles, but I wonder if this upgrade would just make your R&P the new weak piont.

TC---the yota rear is pretty strong for what it is....will handle 36" well. But I now have dana44's front and rear as they have a 8.5" ring gear and offer a dana 5.89 gear option that seems to live with the 4 cylinders. Of course, I no longer have the birfield issue up front which is a great relief. FYI
