There is a guy ove here that is Cryogenically (sp) treating parts. It is supposed to make them stronger by 20% or so.

The reverse cut 8" center on the 80 series is plenty strong in the front since it is running on the right side of the gears.

It is just weak when you are backing up as the pinion is on the coast side of the gears and the smaller 8" ring and pinion is having to push the weight of the big 80 series wagon.

Thanks Nolen - I'm running 37 MTRs and soon to play with 39.5 TSLs - Just wondering what you guys do over there. Have you or anyone seen any ford 9" setups?

I run a hybrid 9" D60 front axle. I do believe it is a great choice for strength, weight and clearance over a standard D60, but you should hammer away on that axle a little and find out if your style warrants the expenditure of an axle swap.
