I was flat towing my 84 SR5 PU Saturday
I had the transmission in neutral but like a dumba$$, I did not have the transfer case in neutral
To make a long story short, while we were towing, I guess I did not have it in neutral good because I now have a rear drive shaft yoke broken and a broken transmission case, yes, it broke completely threw and all the way around the bell housing
Needless to say, it was bleeding BADLY!!!!
My question is, should I go back with the TH350 that's in it or should I change to a different transmission?
BTW, I have a 350 under the hood

Thanks for any suggestions

I would think to go with another TH350 would be the way to go (they're pretty inexpensive to pick up), unless you want to use this as an opportunity to put an auto w/an overdrive in it...
The again, if you're using this for rocks, then get a 5-speed out of a turbo Toy (an R151F 5-speed). This will handle the 350, and give you a nice 4.31:1 first gear (as opposed to the more common 3.93:1 found on most other Toy manuals)

I'm interested in flat towing my 85 pickup. Do you have any pictures of your towbar setup.

BTW, when you flat tow, don't you usually remove you driveshaft and/or unlock you hubs? If so, why did your t-case get so messed up?

Sorry, don't have any pics
The towbar is custom built as well as the hangers on my front bumper

I normally do remove my driveshaft but I was not going very far, less that 25 miles, so I desided not to remove it, paying for it now
I did not damage my t-case, just the transmission and driveshaft, their toast <IMG SRC="smilies/pissed.gif" border="0">

The same thing happened to me before. But I wasnt flat towing, I was driving the truck. The case on the TH350 is ALOT weaker then the Toyota t-case. so that is what breaks. I also thought about going with a chevy manual, but the price to change it over is WAY to expensive. So I just bought another used Tranny. Get a different style t-case mount that will hold your t-case from twisting.
