1985 4-Runner was stolen on8/6/06 and recovered on 9/29/06 missing tires and wheels, winch & bumper, top, optima battery and generally thrashed :mad3: New things I aquired,(left by thief) gas can, high lift jack,300 watt inverter, thievery tools ,bolt cutters, lock picks and screw drivers
recovered work truck

thank the man who invented gps.

my work truck was stolen form my driveway, my fault... left it for a minute to defrost the windows, some asshat must have been watching me, so needless to say, in the 30 seconds i ran in the house it dissapeard.

my company installed gps units on all their trucks last year, and for what they must cost they for sure payed for themself by this recovery. the gps tracking co was able to tell me the exact address of where the truck was located. there were some bugs to work out, but within 2 hours we found it.

I recovered the truck 2.5 miles away from my house, at some pos fourplex, all my tools and material had been stripped from the truck, but i recovered them by sheer luck.... long story short , don't ever leave your keys in your rig running or not, there are alot of creeps out there watching for you to do what i did.

if you live in modesto, the police are no help in stopping these type of things from happening. no one was arrested even though my tools were found on the property, and there were witnesses who saw the shmucks unload my tools from my truck.:mad3:

don't take anything for granted, it takes only a second for it to happen..

work truck, $30,000
tools, $15,000
material, $8,000

gps unit, priceless

Are you serious?
I understand how GPS works :flipoff2: He answered my Question with Lojack.
Hello Everybody!!! My truck was found on friday night, I picked it up from impound on saturday morning. They took my toolbox full of tools, my complete stereo and someother little glovebox things.

It was found in the same area it was spotted and the area i had been camping out in for the last couple times. Lakewood police found it abandoned in an industrial area.

Left in my truck from him were some ciggarette butts, and 2 recepts. One from sameway with a name on it, And an insurance card for a 86 4runner. I had an officer friend run the vin on that insurance card and the 4runner was stolen on feb 2 and was recovered a few days before mine. I have contacted the guy with the 4runner and all they took out of his truck was his stereo also. And he had some tools that were not his left in there as well. (maybe mine? I am workin on that)

Anyways, Me and a buddy have been doin some detective work on this stuff and i will try to keep you all updated. Thanks again everybody for your help!
I got it back! No thanks to the fucking good-for-nothing cops! When it was stolen I called in and gave all the information. Apparently, the first people that I talked to was the dispatch who put out a bulletin. What was supposed to happen next (unknown to me) was that the people who actually take the report were supposed to call me. I never got that call and I was none the wiser.
About 2 weeks later the guy that I bought it from called me on my cell and asked "having problems with the truck?". Luckily when I met the guy and bought the truck from him we hit it off pretty well and had a few beers while telling hunting stories. I hadn't had the truck more than a few weeks when it got stolen, so I didn't have it in my name yet. It was found the day after it was stolen, but since it was not "REPORTED" stolen, the cop that found it had it towed as an abandoned vehicle. It sat in the pound till I got the call from the previous owner and jumped through all the hoops that I had to jump through to get it back. It cost me over 500 to get my truck back from the very same police who fucked up and couldn't do their job right in the first place! Not to mention the $1500 worth of tools (both work tools and truck tools) that was in there, the $400 GPS that was gone, the brand new $250 bucket seats they took, the $80 battery, or the catalytic converter. It's a fucked up system that has been put in place for us!
But, I'm not bitching. I got it back! The thieves spraypainted all over it with black paint, so I guess it's off to MACO for their "presidential package" $275 special theyr'e having right now...just in time!

Got my Runner back today. Nothing wrong with it at all. The stereo, amp, and CB were there. All they took were all of my tools including my brand new 10 minute old wire feed. Having an FBI buddy dust it on Saturday so hopefully I can find the piece of shit thief and give him a good wall to wall counseling session. If not, at least I got the truck back. Thank you to all that kept your eyes and ears open around here.
I found it......

My truck was stolen on 3/2/07 it was missing for a week they found it and when i picked it up the only thing missing was my cat, a brand new high-lift, and my two spares i had in the bed of the truck........ I recovered this truck a week after it had been stolen........ Time to put that kill switch in no more procrastinating!!!!:flipoff2:
80 4 Runner, came outside one day and my heart sank. No where in site...PD couldnt do anything.....week later I was walking my dog and took a short cut through an alley, sure enough there it was door ajar. Luckily I took all my gear out before parking it on the street (garage isnt big enough for all my toys) A quick jump later and it was back home safe and sound. Worst part is it still smells like the ass that took it :mad3:
'94 ZJ. Stolen from my work one night. Cops recovered two days later parked on a dead end street 25 miles from where it was stolen. Minor damage (cracked windshield, broken window, shattered ignition, random broken plastic, etc.), cigarette ashes on everything. But definetly repairable. Just glad to have her back, resting safely in the garage.
81 toy, stolen from my driveway while I was at work. Recovered 7 days later. They took seats, hood, tailgate, rims tires, valve cover radiator, steering cooler, doors, and other things I can’t remember. Luckily I still have my axles and t-case. I’m in the process of putting everything back together.
moto was stolen then recovered about 5 months later. some parts damaged and will be replaced, some parts just scuffed up but useable.
the perp admitted stealing it to a cellmate while in county jail so the DA says his job will be very easy to get the minimum 8 years in state pen.
I have also asked for restitution, but do not know how much(if any) I will get. Will probably just get added to his sentence.
Also found out the guy was working part time at wallys and riding it across town(15 miles) to work several nights per week. Maybe I should have gone to wallys after midnight, as I may have seen it parked out front.

now it is up for sale, since my insurance company declined my original theft claim and never paid, so I bought a new bike not long after this one was stolen.

I had my 95 wrangle on 44" swampers stolen in Oklahoma. Upon first noticing it was gone. About 14 hours after it was taken I called the police and while I was waiting I called my sons and had them put out mass text messages to everyone we knew. After getting the police report filed I then posted on every web forum I knew of in our state and all surrounding states. Since we have a vast network of friends that know our rigs we were fortunate to have it seen with in 2 hours on a trailer 50 miles away by some of our friends. The thieves had been down running the river with it and 3 stolen 4 wheelers. Our friends call us and then followed the trailer until the police had the kids cuffed and stuffed. We were very fortunate:D.

Hi guys. My 87 4runner was stolen last weekend from y apartment and the Fresno pd recovered it Monday in another apartment about a half a mile from my place. All they took out of it were the Hi-Lift and the battery. Looks like all they had to do was put a shaved blank key in the ignition to start it.
My senior year of high school i fully restored a 1973 Dodge powerwagon short box. 400hp 318, 4 spd., 8 inch lift with brand new 36's. The EXACT day i finished the electrical work i went to a bachelor party and stumbled back the next morning to find it gone. NONE of my neighbors were home cuz they were all at church. I hadn't put insurance on it yet cuz i didnt finish the custom bumpers. that was 7 years ago, and never heard a single word about it. So thats my depressing story.
Stolen 84 4x4 recovered 13 minutes later by police

A few months ago was awakened by my 84 Toyota 4x4 being started, its loud hedder 2inch exhaust and a flowmaster.Ran to the front of my house all to watch it drive away.On the phone with police( it pays to have family in the police department)a chase through 3 municipalties and finally busted when the scum blew out the clutch. All for 13 minute joy ride, busted and also possession on cocaine. But do you think the courts would do anything, filed all the paperework to recover the costs of damage and the courts just let him off with nothing. No jail time, but he was charged with conditions subject to,And was told keep your nose clean or else.Nice court system
Cobra found!

FOUND! 13 months later, holy shit. SJPD called Russ, they found it sitting in a parking lot 1/2 mile from his apartment. Intact. No damage, unlocked. He just sent me pictures through the fence at impound. The business had reported it as an abandoned vehicle and he's trying to get it right now.
Insurance does not own it, they denied the claim on it, insist that he had cancelled theft coverage a year before it was stolen. (bullshit) he's fought them on this for months and finally gave up.

He's not gotten inside it yet, but impound asked for current registration (on a car you figured is gone 13 months ago??) but gave in after admitting they had found the old registration in the glove box still.

The hell? I don't get it, it's filthy, looks like it's been sitting outside for 13 months but to find it 1/2 a mile away like this? I can't wait until he can dig through the car and see if he finds anything incriminating. Would really like to know the details on this one.

No visible signs of vandalism or damage, but won't run. He's getting it towed to his mechanic tonight.

Voted repairable since from the looks of things it hasn't been driven in months.
Talking to him right now, he's waiting at impound for the tow truck. The lady that took his money said she was shocked that even his battery was still there. It's just a weird situation, poor Russ is going between wanting to cry and laughing his ass off. :grinpimp:
