Just a little teaser

The Pirate4x4.com Tellico Task force has been very busy.

We are preparing for the next public comment period by researching many different topics to argue for our rights to access public lands. (This comment period MAY be sometime in October)

In our research, we have found something important: There are MANY reasons Brook Trout populations are low in a lot of areas.

Taken from http://www.easternbrooktrout.net/docs/brookiereportfinal.pdf

"The Southeast mountains have suffered from
poor land use practices over the past several centuries. Largescale
logging, instream log-drives and poor land management
associated with agriculture increased erosion and opened
the shaded streams to the sun. As water quality declined and
brook trout disappeared, rainbow trout and brown trout were
introduced. As forests returned and aquatic habitat improved,
these non-native fish expanded their range and now compete
with brook trout for food and space. Most remaining highquality
trout habitat is occupied by non-native fish. Rainbow
trout are specifically recognized as a threat to brook trout in over
70% of the subwatersheds with brook trout data in these states.
Poor land management continues to contribute to increased
water temperatures, sedimentation and nutrient pollution.
Regional experts specifically identified urbanization, poor land
management and degraded streamside habitat as major threats
to brook trout habitat."

Upper Tellico is just a VERY SMALL piece of the puzzle. I have found another study that proves the number one issue is introduction of non-native fish is the biggest problem. In this study they caught a bunch for Browns and checked thier stomachs. On average the Browns had 2.5 Brookies in thier stomachs. Non Native fish, logging and agriculture are the biggest problems.

SO WHY ATTACK OHV USERS?

BECAUSE THEY THINK WE WILL NOT FIGHT BACK.

In essence, Trout Unlimited thinks we are a bunch of fawkin pussies that will not fight for our access and that we are to dumb to fight back or that we will give up thinking it's all lost.

They attack what they deem the WEAKEST. :mad3:

Your right about easy pickin's...

And even enviro lawyers gotz to make cash. When the judge finished with one of their cases on the coast he ordered the govt to pay all of the enviro attorney fees even though he dismissed the case (although he did tell the park service it needed to fix a lot of stuff), I'm sure its like that in a lot of cases...whats a really experienced 10 year+ lawyer get...$300 hour($250k+/year)...for all the time put into the case, plus pay for associate and staff attorneys($80k+/year), paralegals($50k/year), fund raisers, media people, office assistants, office directors, interns (some paid some not)...heck law firms charge for everything right down to copy paper...and one of the ways they make all that money is by winning cases. The easier the better. The other way is to get people to donate their extra money to a good charity so they can hide form more taxs....alot of people blindly donate money to what ever charity makes them feel a warm and cuddly...like my wife sending money to that girl in india...who cant even score me some new nike shoes or anything...

I have been followin this closely and the thing that get's me is do the people at TU think that they are immune to having the priviledge(sp) of fishin for trout takin from them by somebody else.

If the brook trout are soo threatened then it seems to me like their would be some group out there tryin to keep them from bein fished. Just my dumbass observation.

Maybe a letter of intent to sue the FS to stop over fishing and seeding of the Tellico River needs to be sent!

I would be willing to bet that the lawyers working for TU have set all this up so that they can make easy money. They set up an organization, get all kinds of non-profit money, then they help the organization fight a cause that gets drawn out so they can pay themselves all this free non-profit money they collected. In a sense they have hired themselves and they are the only ones with an agenda, to get rich. Possibly the top TU people are getting some of that money back too. That's why the local TU people don't know about it. It has nothing to do with "saving" fish that they are going to kill anyway, it's all about getting as rich as possible off this.
