How long can you normally drive before you run out of shims to remove, and need to fit new bearings in the swivels?

I fixed a broken CV on my Defender 110 which has little more than 30 000 miles on it. While I was at it, I adjusted the swivel preoload by removing shims. I left a few really thin in there and removed a thick one, but I could probably have removed all shims without exceeding the 4-8kg specified to turn one swivel. So next time around, it's bearing replacement time!?

Is this to be expected, even with 35.5" Swampers and 1.5" spacers? It has only been running with these for maybe 1/3 of the mileage, stock wheels previous to this.
