T-case rebuild dilemma

I have torn down the T case from my 40 and a spare T case I got from an HJ45. I would like to use the gear set form the 45 case because the high range range gears are wider. However, the dog teeth on the wider gear show more wear than the other set. Any opinions on which set I should use would be appreciated. Both transfer cases are single piece 4 speed.

The same teeth on the narrow gear are in much better condition.

It looks like the dog teeth are worn almost to a point. If so I would not use them. The wear does not look to bad on either.

BTW, get some M10x1.25 bolts, drill out the nose cone threads in the case and tap for the M10. One of the best upgrades for those older cases IMO.

Yes, they are almost pointed. Thanks for the advice. Are the nose cone bolts prone to breakage?

why are the FJ45 ones wider? maybe the case was just newer?!?!?!

Yup. Mine is a 74 - one of the first 4 speeds. The 45 had a square bezel - one of the last 4 speeds.
