Going to swap in a new tranny and have choice between the T 18 or NP435.

T18 gear NP435

6:32 1 6.69
3:09 2 3:34
1:69 3 1:79
1:00 4 1:00

The 435 has a lower first and second gear which should help in crawling.

Other pro and cons with these 2 trannys?

if i were you, i guess id look into things like...

which is longer (t18=11.87" 435=10.7")
what tcase you use, and how easy it is to adapt to either tranny
etc

i have an np435 adapted to a chevy 350, then to a np205. i cant wait for the 3:1 kit to come out for the 205. other than that i freakin love the 435 and 205. ive heard good things about both trannys. im sure you'de be happy with both.

check this site out for some other stats:

While you're comparing length don't just look at the length of the tranny. While the T18 is longer than the NP435, the T18 plus Dana 20 adapter is shorter than the NP435 plus Dana 20 adapter. I don't know what the case is with a Dana 300.

I went from a T-4 dana 300 to an NP-435/Dana-300 short shaft (that I happened to buy from High-5) and had to lengthen my driveshaft a few inches. I like my NP-435/300 set up, nice and short and nice and slow. Bot transmissions are good, but New Process' are cheaper and easier to find out there. (comparing the T-18 and NP-435)

I have 435/203/20 (doubler)

A few notes which might explain why I went this way:

There are many different versions of each tranny, but slightly fewer of the 435 than the 18. Sounds stupid, I know, but not knowing much about what I was doing, which one was going to be easiest to find had a lot to do with it, so I went 435.

The T18 is shorter with a single transfer case, but if you plan on doing a doubler, I don't think you can get a doubler option shorter than the 435/203/20. Mine ended up being about 2 ~ 3 inches SHORTER (ie: I had to lengthen my driveshaft) than my stock AX15/231 with SYE.

So keep in mind all your options down the road.
