"Take 92" - YJ Link kit from Motobilt with Nines

For reference here is last build that had way to many changes in it so that is why I am starting a new thread.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-hardcore-tech/1021890-impaks-wrangler-build-no-more-xj.html

So here is the Story..

After I wrecked my XJ racing it I decided I wanted an open top Jeep that my family of 4 could ride in and we could all enjoy it but then I also could go out with the guys on some hard trails and be able to keep up.

So After selling a bunch of parts I found a nice YJ

It is a 92 YJ with a XJ 4.0 and TJ NV3550.
My Plan is to rip out the dana 30 and 8.8 and replace them with 9's add a dana 300 and 4 link with sway a way air shocks.

pics of Jeep as I got it

Did your motobilt 4 link kit sit flush against the bottom of the frame or was it raised up where the stock skid plate mounted to the frame?

Mine used the 3 stock mounting holes in the frame to line it all up and then welded it on
Great build! Your Jeep looks like a ton of fun!
How's the front 2 piece shaft holding up? How fast have you driven in 4wd? Have you noticed any vibes? Great build.

I am happy to say that I have had no issues with driveshaft. Probably only 35mph or so in 4wheel drive. I can do 60 on regular roads in 2 wheel drive.
How are the air shocks for driving on the highway? I thought that air shock would heat up and start to fade.

Also, are they the same diameter as the ones you had on your xj?
I am planning a trip to Moab in May so trying to get all the little things done

added a small Dynomax muffler. Not the prettiest but it works

Do you notice the exhaust coming up into the jeep etc with it ending underneath? I am thinking about doing this for my truggy with a rear seat.

Also is there not enough triangulation in the front 4 link that you need a panhard bar?

No real issues with the shocks. I don't drive it a ton on the highway so can't speak to that all that much. I will say twice when I was racing across desert time terrain in Moab and KOH the shocks did heat up which raised the jeep up but then they worked even better. Warmer they got the faster I could go threw the wooops.

If you do plan to do highway I would say get coilivers.

I don't notice the exhaust smell or sound in jeep at all but I do have a cat still on the jeep. A buddy put one of these on his v8 with no cat and they very very loud.

The front is very close to having enough but I had the material and the room for the track bar so i just made it work. I have no issue flexing so no need to remove it. Plus wife wanted to drive it so i did not want to risk the front walking around on her.
Took the jeep out to King of the Hammers. Walked chocolate thunder and even drove the ledge on sledgehammer. Jeep did awesome and was a great pit vehicle for the 4820 race team

Another racer blew his motor so we helped him remove it with the crane.

No problems at all. Air them down to 4psi and run them.
Had an awesome time at Rausch Creek this weekend. CNC4x4 had 11 people trail riding.

We did just a ton of trails I can't even remember all the names and even some brand new trails that just opened this year.

I did have a big oops when I grabbed 4th gear instead of reverse. But jeep is fine and I am fine so no biggy.

I turned right when I should have turned left :) just kidding the rear tire was in a huge hole and I was tryign to climb it and when it started to go over I reach for reverse and hit 4th.. oops

flipped it back over pulled the plugs to make sure no fluid was in top of engine and it was bone dry so we were all good to go and continue on for the day

at the end of a great weekend

Great looking Jeep man. Maybe I missed it but how much stretch do you have in the rear from stock? Wandering how close and what the limits may be on the upper links hitting the sunken fuel cell.

Wheelbase is 102" most of the stretch is in the front. Rear only has a couple inches
How do you like the creepies? Seems like a lot of people a jumping on the reds or treps bandwagon.

Work great for me. I have no issues at all. I run them at 4psi with inner air locks.
