There seems to be a ton of info on this topic and it feels like I am going in circles lately. So here is the short of what I got and what I am doing.

Like it says, I plan on putting a TF999 out of a 93 YJ in my 03 TJ that has a NV3550.

Here is what I have
I have the TF999 Trans
I have a Non Lock Up Torque Converter
I have the steel and bushings to make the Trans Mount

Here is what I know I want
An Art Carr Shifter
A Manual Valve body (standard patern, I believe TransGo has these)
Fin Style cooler's

So now starts the ugly list of what I need. I want to go with quality parts and be done with it. I look foward to hearing some oppinions.

TIA

I'm not sure this qualifies as "hardcore" tech....

Here are some parts to consider:

Dust shield small part 52118 136AB
Dust shield - large part J323 7847
Flex Plate backing plate J321 4094
Trans alignment dowels J400 5148
Master Cyll Blockoff plate 52104013
Trans jumper wire 56010 212AB

Flex plate
CPS
new flex plate bolts (shorter than flywheel bolts)
new torque converter bolts

Transmission temperature gauge
Transmission cooler line
Spin on transmission filter & Mount
Transmission mount
Transmission cooler mounting hardware
Well nuts for AC condenser (if needed) 1/4"-20 well nut - short with thin hat.

I would make sure the manual valve body supports engine braking in all gears.

Have you looked into reverse manual valve bodies?

On my 2000 with a 3550 the 231 input shaft seems to be the proper length to engage the 999 output oil seal. I know that some have mentioned using an extended oil seal, but it does not seem to be necessary in some cases.

good info, I'm doing this swap soon, does anyone make a reverse manual valve body? I like the idea of having 1st and reverse close together.

I don't believe that the TransGo "stick shift" kits support engine braking. They are more of a setup for race cars, etc.

As was mentioned, I would look into a reverse pattern manual valve body. Then 1st and reverse are as close to each other as they can be. That is how I'm setting my 700r4 up after I finish rebuilding it...
