dont quote me but i think it's about 5 quarts but it may be more. i usually just add atf until the tranny will engage into drive and move, then check the dipstick. any shop manual for a gm car with th350 will tell you the capacity. but mines at home if you completely take the tranny apart and drain the torque converter you have to add a lot more. <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

I was told 7 - 9 by the guy who rebuilt my TH350. I'll let you know for sure when I put it in.

My tranny was out and I put new seals and a filter in it.The converter was filled before I put it in.I just needed to know how much fluid to put in so I can start the truck and not do any damage. I'll go with 5 and add the rest after it's running to bring it up to full.
Thanks

a bone dry th350 will take 10 qts. the converter alone holds 4 qts. best way to check it is to have the vehicle fully warmed up and make sure you have the right dipstick and tube combination. they are available from the dealer (fit best) for about $25.

if the converter is full, or you think it is, put 4 quarts in the trans and then start the truck. if you put in more than 4 qts the fluid will pour out of the vent because without the engine running, the pump won't transport the fluid anywhere.
if you fill it and it starts leaking like carzy when it's running it's probably over filled and fluid will come out at the top; the vent. does not harm anything except for the mess.
double check the level after driving it around the block!
