OK. Here's my deal: I can get a TH350 that's been sitting outside for a while for free. It's the 4x4 version with a 203 case behind it, which I can also get. (Don't need it, though.) I've been wanting to try my hand at rebuilding auto trannies but not sure that right now is the best time. Does anyone know of somewhere where you can just send them a core and receive a rebuilt unit for a reasonable price? My brother is doing this with Marlin and his Yota tranny.

If there is a significant price difference, I will just rebuild it myself, since I've been wanting to do it anyway. I've heard you can get all the parts to do the rebuild for $150 and that it is easy. If it's been sitting outside for a while, is it really worth it anyway? It seems to still be in good shape, with the only rust being on the input shaft and clean paint on the outside. I can still read the painted on markings.

get some quotes from your local trans shops. they can do "bench rebuilds" for you. if you plan on doing it yourself, get a technical manual and let me know if you need parts, i work for a trans parts warehouse. pm me.

You need a few special tools to rebuild transmissions One to compress the clutch pack to replace the clutches. Few others i cant think of.

My local transmission shop will bench a trans for 250$ with a shift kit. Almost isnt worth tryin to do it yourself at that price because if you had 150 in parts and it didnt last it would be worth the extra 100 to have it done professionally.

You can actually make a nice comprssser and puller. I bought a damn video for $25 and it was wonderful-talked you right through it. I slapped a 9 inch tv/vcr combo on the bench and a $75 complete rebuild kit and it was easy! VERY EASY. just keep everything clean and check your clearances on each clutch pack.
