I was reading in the 4 Wheel Drive and Sport Utility Magazine about Matt Burketts AGR CJ 7. It says that he's got 3" leaf lift/srs/1" body lift and running 39.5" swampers. I realize that some sheet metal has been removed but...That doesnt sound like much lift for those big meats. I'm not doubting him, just don't understand.

Its pretty obvious if you look at his leaf pack that he's not running 3" of spring under suspension lift. The leafs look more like 5" custom nationals. My bro's got 5" nationals on his SUA YJ and thats about how much room and arch he has. So he's probably workin with 5" susp. a 1-2" body, and some sawza-in. and that rockcrawler hood adds alot of room as well. I like that rig I think it kicks ass but im not down on the spring under.

OK, here's another angle...

I'm running 5" Nationals which have 12 (thinner) leaves per pack.
Those look like maybe 5 or 6 leave and have less arch than mine for sure...
Our SUAs don't have axel wrap ... hop, hop, hop ... but I'll bet yours will ...

For one thing National doesnt just make 12 leafers, they make them however you want... As far as arch goes they still look the same as my bro's 5"-ers to me. Plus I seem to have a hard time believing that 39.5" TSL's are crammed under a Jeep with a 3" susp. lift and 1" body. Thats 4" of freakin lift!! Back in the day I barely crammed 35" BFG's under a 4" lift. and that included some sawza-in.... just my thoughts.

My friend and I stuffed 35's under his '73 CJ-5 with a 2 1/2" lift, zero body lift, and some sawzall action. I'd believe the 39.5's would work. That's around 4" more tire, or 2" radius--and he's got 2" more lift than the one I had a hand in.

I'll be running 36" swampers with 2.5" SL, and a 1" BL. Not much left of the fenders mind you. I figure that if I used a Rock Crawler Hood and raised the rear fenderwells so I could trim the rear fenders more I could probably run 38.5x14.5 swampers.

For my XTV project, I'll be about 1" higher spring lift and 1" higher body lift than where I am now and I plan on running the 38.5's.

Funny cause that is more or less the name for my project. eXtreme Trail Vehicle (XTV) I thought about XTJ, but I don't think it could rightly be called a Jeep after I'm done with it. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
