Okay, I have started collecting parts for my new axle build up, And now it's time for some good educated non-disfunctional opinions on width's:D

First off, The front will be an open knuckle 44, Either a waggy based housing or a narrowed chevy housing. I will be using chevy 8 lug outers... The rear was going to be a 44 also, But now i have dicided to build either a 60 or a C&c 14 bolt(depending on the final dicision on the front's width. Now i have spent some time searching on the best width on the front, But i still fell empty handed. I need yor guy's opinions on what you think?? Or what you like......

I have wheeled toyota's for a long time, And want something a little wider for my XJ build up, But still be able to drive it on the street. So far i am thinking somewhere around 63" to 65" wms for the front and ofcourse a couple inches narrower out back.
Am i on the write track?? Any opinions would be greatly appriciated...Also, Any opinions on leaving the chevy axle fullwidth??(67")


BTW, the Xj these axle are going under will have around 7"-9" of lift and a target goal of 36"-37" tires, We'll as low COG as i can go without major rubbing( And yes, If i cut the fenders anymore I wouldn't have any):D

I think location is very important.

Here in the PNW narrower seems to be better. I started off as 82" outside tire to outside tire. That worked really well everywhere but in the PNW. (Actually worked pretty good in the summer) Now that its winter I run 77" outside to outside. Seems to do pretty well. I may want to be a bit narrower. If I didnt live here like you do then I would just stay wide.

I have a rear 67" WMS 14 bolt. I run stock hummer wheels on it and works really good.

Front is 65" WMS-WMS I would say 63"-65" is a good bet

If you play around TSF, IMO narrow is good. Full width axles with hummer wheels will keep you pretty close to stock width. But with that combo your hubs will stick out past the wheel a few inches. I saw a guy running full width axles, hummer wheels, and ~2" spacers so the wheels would cover and protect the hubs. That seemed like a good combo even though it was a few inches wider than stock.

My 62 wms front end has troubles fitting in some parts out here in bend. Then again the 58wms rear fits well

Similar issues here in the Midwest.

My front is a waggy, 8 lug chevy rotors, 2.5" spacers, stock hummer. I guess that puts me at 67.5 WMS-WMS and 76" track if my stupid meat computer is working.

Rear is a Dana 70 from a '79 F-350, 64.5" WMS-WMS, stock hummer.

My width is about perfect but the outboarded springs hurt my turning radius a little. If I had it to do over I would have narrowed a Widetrack axle from a Chief or maybe Chevy or somethin.

Keep in mind that the radius of your tires has a lot to do with you turning radius and the width or backspacing of your rims and alxe length...i would run a narrow track waggie fron and a rear around 61-64"s wide for 38.5"s . You could go 14 bolt C&C in the rear and a narrow track waggie front, they would be pretty dang close

86-95 Toy 8" 58.5
2.5" backspaced wheels

The 8" has same clearance as a D35 and is up to some 37s. Both of these axles are pretty cheap and offer TONS of aftermarket support.

It just so happens to be what I run, after debating every concievable combination for about a year.

Keep the lift to 7", 37s will fit with a sawzall

I think with that being a concern, I will stay away from the hummer beadlocks....
Dicided on narrowing my chevy housng and using waggy inners...
