Add up the numbers the average price of a birfield eliminator kit is around 700-800 bucks versus a dana 44 swap for: a complete good used dana 44 for 150.00 , shortening for free , respline the shafts 85 bucks , r&p 125.00 , depending on locker well say 250.00 , dana 44 392 & up carrier 45 bucks , resplkine the tie rod and draglink 100 bucks , new ubolt 40 bucks , and iff you want to make it new 200.00 so for a grand total of less than 1000 dollars youve got it not counting selling your front end for 150 and and used locker and gears for 200 figure on 700 for the swap / my point the birfield eliminator uses dana 44 shafts anyway! so you get a stronger frontend for less look at e . b website

Couple of things that you missed:
1. $125 for R&P ? More like $175 or $275 with bearing kit.
2. $250 for a locker ? MAYBE a lock-rite , IF you install it yourself.
3. $700-800 for a birf eliminator kit ?
I'll bet you cant even get one right now so what is the point>
Randy's ring and pinion is SUPPOSED to be ready to sell their version in December at the soonest, and it will be $599
I kinda agree with what you are saying, but if I were starting from scratch I would SERIOUSLY consider going to a high pinion 44.
