Decided it's time to finally do a build thread on the buggy. Finally got a shop of my own. Started life as a 85 4 runner and has gone through many phases as my love for the hobby has grown. Plans for this phase are 3 link front, 3rz and to finish tube work finally. I back half ed it and linked the year two years ago, got impatient and wheeled it for awhile "unfinished ". Here are some catch up pics
Waiting on clutch, flywheel, and header, then the engine is going back in. Then I will be able to put the axle under it and start the suspension. This will be my first 3 link and I can't wait to get started on it. Plan is to stay very low. I've been 20" to the flat belly on 4ds and plan to keep it that way. Going from 108" to 113 +/- an inch or so. Went to fordyce last summer and I really think longer wb will be beneficial to that terrain. I fell in love with that place. Any and all advice or comments are welcomed as I am no expert. Have definitely learned a shit ton from this site and hopefully can contribute a fraction of what I have learned
nice tube work
I'm am 23" and 113
it works really well but with my 4wu 3 link, ruffstuffed wide front I'm going to 118-119 with the front
for me an the Von, moon rocks, Barrett, fordyce it with a good I want to just a bit longer with the approach angle
worked on the front a bit, not sure how much I like it. I will probably try it one other way and make aluminum skins for both ways. I think IL be able to decide easier once the panels are on. Also working on the hood. Going to trim hood again to fit the tube. I got some 1/2" solid steel bar I'm going to weld to the underside of the hood to stiffen it up and also to roll the sheet metal over to give it a clean and strong finish. Will post up later with more pics
Progress has been fairly slow. Been collecting parts for my engine swap. And working on my shop. Had an issue with water getting in so the shop is in shambles at the moment. Progress will continue in full force very soon
Brown Santa came today . Parts that came in:
3rz header by Lce
Full hydro kit
6 shooters and trunion eliminator kit
All link ends and bungs for front 3 link
Double sheer kit
Rear sump oil pan kit
14" fox air shocks
Clutch and flywheel from rock auto.
Stay tuned as engine is getting dressed up and dropped in this weekend. Thanks to Luke @ Frontier 4x4 for the great service and hook up on the parts
Looking good you are going to like that 3rz it's a big step up from a 22re
What axle gears are you running? I wish my runner was still alive
Started to install my lce header tonight. One of the studs is being a bitch. I definitely don't want to snap that off so I got I soaking overnight. Also I got the wrong pump kit. So the engine is gonna have to wait a few more days to go in until I get the right parts. Stay tuned for progress pics
Being able to turn it is not the issue. I got my female easy out deal on it and it's biting. It's starting to twist is the issue. Although if I welded a nut on it I'd be able to work it back and forth...
Well...I got this piece of shit out finally. Took a lot of swearing and coors light. It is actually 1/4" longer now than its supposed to be lol. Gonna run a tap in the head and chase the threads and I should be back to moving forward. And I will definitely be putting the studs in with anti-sieze
Tapped the head for the new stud. Got my rear sump pan installed, installed header and egr block off plates, through bolted my driver side engine mount. Then took the 3rz outside for a bath! Gonna get the engine hanging from the hoist to install new clutch and flywheel this week. Also ordered the lower inspection cover for the bellhousing from toyota that should be here Tuesday. Engine is going in on Wednesday for the last time !
