OP, two questions:

1 - Did you carry a firearm? If so, what? Permits required?

2 - Why not an M416 trailer as well? Moe fuel, water and living space inside your JK.

Nice job.
1. Absolutely not. Crossing international borders with a firearm is seriously, seriously illegal and would result in instant long-term jail.

2. I'm not a trailer guy. I understand some people love them and I think they can work well, they're just not for me.
Given the roads I took in West Africa, I'm happy I didn't have one.

Thank you.

One other question. There is large underfloor storage area in the back of a JK. Is that where you placed the water tank?

No, my water tank is between the exhaust and the driveshaft on the driverside - where the evap canister usually sits.
I put it there because I really wanted the weight centered between the two axles.

(Don't panic! - I put a steel rock guard on it... read below for full details)

Full details on the water tank design and build are here: DIY 4x4 Drinking Water Tank, Pump, Filter and Treat | The Road Chose Me

Hi All,

I'm a bit behind editing the thousands of hours of HD footage I have filmed on the West Coast.

My latest YouTube video just went up, it's about my time exploring Gabon - possibly my favorite country on the West Coast.
I can't believe more people don't explore there!

I vow to get one online every couple of weeks now to catch up with the backlog!

Hey man! thanks for taking the time to post and share all your adventures with everybody.

I've known a couple guys who have done the work/save/scrimp to travel too. One of them was trying to be the first person to solo sail the coast of BC. Other guy traveled EU.

Are you doing the "don't mess with that guy he must be crazy" look to not have any grief or what? lol

Pirate goons..throw this guy a subscribe on the Yootubes.

Yep, I really am. The big beard and scruffy hair I think genuinely helps stop people from messing with me. Often times when Military or whatever ask for a bribe I can say things like "I have not had a shower in 4 days.. my clothes are dirtier than yours..."... and it's true.

Almost always they leave me alone after that :)

Also, even when I put on a clean shirt it's covered in mud within an hour anyway, so there really is no point :)

Hi All,

Some of you must be wondering what it would be like to ride along with me in the Jeep for 10 days, or even do what I'm doing full time.

The Editor of JPFreek Adventure Magazine flew out to Africa and did exactly that, and you can read all of his thoughts on what I'm doing with my life in the latest FREE edition of the magazine.

Checkout this story in the magazine to get an outsiders perspective on what I'm doing with my life:

Hi All,

I crossed into South Africa no problems at all, and after a quick jaunt I have crossed into the Kingdom of Lesotho!

(Don't worry, I'll go back to South Africa for a lot more exploring!)

Lesotho is amazing, here we are enjoying the views of one of the biggest single-drop waterfalls in Africa - 630ft.

Read all about it Into The Kingdom of Lesotho | The Road Chose Me

Now I'm in the interior of the country, exploring remote roads and mountains.
Wild camping every night is great, here's another random one:

Hi All,

I continued to explore Lesotho, finding a ton of great wild camp spots:

Then I got the Jeep to probably the highest it will be on the continent (10,630ft.)

Which I thought was a good excuse for a beer at the highest pub in Africa:

You can read more about all of that here:
Looping Lesotho pt 2 | The Road Chose Me

From there, I dropped down the super-famous Sani Pass into South Africa. It's a stunning pass with a few wicked switchbacks, of course the first vehicle to ever drive it was a Jeep!

You can read more about my drive down the Sani Pass here:
The Sani Pass | The Road Chose Me

Now it's time to explore South Africa!
