Any nerds here into this stuff? The teaser is out and looks badass..

They had a panel at SDCC and Henry Cavill is a huge fan and begged to be in it. Says he spends most of his free time with a sword in his hands to get comfortable with it. The fight choreography is being done by the same guy that did Game of Thrones, and played the Night King. Should be good.

Its based on the books and NOT the video games, so naturally I ordered a few of them to get into it and have read two of the books in the last week

Books are done. The author also came out with another one that is kind of a side story that takes place in between the 1st and 2nd books. He's also working on another one that takes place after the stories apparently.

Its weird how the series is formatted though. The first two books are collections of short stories that introduce the characters and a lot of backstory, but it jumped around in the timeline and some of it is told as a flashback. Then the rest are the main saga. I just ordered the 3rd book, the first main saga story. There are 8 total books.

The first season of the show (from the teaser anyways) looks like its covering some of the first two books, and interspersing the 3rd and main story line. We'll see how well they connect it and how it flows.

I think it's not going to do as well as they hope. The vast majority of Witcher fans are fans because of the excellent video game series, not the books. The fact that they are working with the author of the books means that a lot of the character choices are not matching up with what people think they should be like since they don't match what we have seen for years in the games. The author, while brilliant, is also a fucking crybaby because he made a deal with CD Project Red to develop the video games and never thought it would take off and make any money. In reality they made a shitload of money and is about the only thing that pushed his books and characters into the spotlight. So he has always hated the video games, even though they stay true to the lore and world he created. So I see this series as his way of "taking back" his IP and it's going to go South with a lot of the fans.

Also the Nilfgaardian "ballsack" armor looks ridiculous and whomever came up with that idea needs to be tied to a post with their own entrails.

I am looking forward to it. I've only played the last round of witcher games so I will probably be lost if the story is different. Want to sell the books you have already read?

If you are talking about the "Witcher: First Hunt" short on Amazon Prime Video, it is based on the same IP, but that was a low budget pile and hated pretty much universally.

cool. after reading this thread, the wife and I gave it a couple minutes and she said, 'your 4 wheel drive friends like this?' and we both laughed...

When the series comes out, we'll give it another chance... we loved GOT.

If you haven't already, try The Last Kingdom on Netflix. It's very well done and I am hoping The Witcher gets a similar budget, though I am not holding my breath that the writing or acting will be worth a damn. But we shall see.
