Sorry, I have ADHD or what ever the fuck it is. If you can't dazzle me with great acting and a fast pace story line you better pay attention to detail. The Next scene at the bar was another nail in the coffin. Girl next door looking chick stops certain bar brawl with a sassy nag, then pounds pint? She was clearly the wrong actress for this part. I have to assume it's one of those shows where casting is just "equal opportunity driven". The writing appeared to be sucking too. I'll pass.
The girl next door chick was cast well enough for who she was supposed to be. The reason she could stop the bar fight with a quip was the guys looking for the fight were her crew of bandits.

There's a couple of castings that smack of inclusiveness that annoyed me a bit, the two sourceress's: Triss is described as having "blue eyes and chestnut hair" (played by a half cast chick with brown eyes and hair) and Fringilla "She was a woman with natural grace, green eyes and close-cropped black hair." (Played by a black chick) Fringilla is supposed to look similar to Yennifer and Geralt has an affair with her due to this similarity.

I also wish they'd made the timeline a bit clearer. A simple date and location subtext at the start of each major switch about would have helped viewers without any awareness of try the books.

I think it's not going to do as well as they hope. The vast majority of Witcher fans are fans because of the excellent video game series, not the books. The fact that they are working with the author of the books means that a lot of the character choices are not matching up with what people think they should be like since they don't match what we have seen for years in the games. The author, while brilliant, is also a fucking crybaby because he made a deal with CD Project Red to develop the video games and never thought it would take off and make any money. In reality they made a shitload of money and is about the only thing that pushed his books and characters into the spotlight. So he has always hated the video games, even though they stay true to the lore and world he created. So I see this series as his way of "taking back" his IP and it's going to go South with a lot of the fans.

Also the Nilfgaardian "ballsack" armor looks ridiculous and whomever came up with that idea needs to be tied to a post with their own entrails.
Are you the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons?

That gold dragon was terrible. SyFy level terrible. CG model pasted on top of footage with zero lighting reference from the scene. Talking in a regular-guy voice- without the CG mouth moving. Gross.
I have not read the books in a pretty long time, but I believe the golden dragon can communicate telepathically.

That makes sense...if you've read the books. Obviously it just came off as shit CG for those of us who haven't.

If that's what they were doing, they could have used an echo effect or a reaction by a character. And given a DRAGON a voice that didn't sound like a pasty middle-aged guy.

Out of idle curiosity how do you think one could convey telepathy or unspoken thoughts via CG or acting? Who knows what a dragon sounds like telepathically. It IS after all a voice inside your head.

Given the venue one needs to think vintage 50s Roger Corman Scifi effects not Lucas films post Y2k CGI. The big $$ isn't really there for indy films and series to allow for purchase of time from ILM or Pixar to do the CGI.

As fer me, Ive already binged the series to date so its hurry up and wait to see if there is a 2nd season...:D

Netflix has approved 3 seasons and the producers have plotted out at least 7 seasons.
sweet!

I never read the books or played the game but I enjoyed it. I kinda wish they had put in a subtitle or note at the bottom of the screen when they were doing flashbacks though. The first couple of times it happened I was like WTF that queen jumped out a window! Once I realized what they were doing it was easier to understand.

Finished, looking forward to more seasons. It definitely improved from the dragon. Yennifer's fire trick was cool. I always wanted to see Gandalf pull that...

Corman? Not quite. $10M/episode.
The budget of The Witcher Season 1 is around 70–80 million USD whereas the first few seasons of Game of Thrones cost around 50–60 million USD (per Season).

Although this is the case, the first season of Game of Thrones was released in 2012 and if it was created now, the budget would be a bit more but still less than Witcher's. But if you compare the budget of the last few seasons of Game of Thrones the budget per episode is much more than The Witcher; the budget of Game of Thrones season 8 is around 90 million USD, which is 15 million USD per episode.

As far as character reaction, It is likely that Geralt has already dealt with dragons and it's no surprise to him that dragons use telepathy.

As a person who only played the last game, I'm a bit confused because the annoying sidekicks name is "Dandelion", but it's not a deal breaker. Maybe he changes it later to avoid some pissed off husband or something.

He's Jaskier in the books and non English versions of the games iirc Jaskier translates from Polish to English as Buttercup. CDPR decided to change it to Dandelion for the English language version.

Watched it this weekend, never heard of the books or video game before. It was ok I guess I would watch more if I happen to notice when the next season comes out.

Tried last night, made it about 4 minutes. Couldn’t handle the swords, fake midieval accents and other faggotry.:flipoff2:
Uh the sword fighting is some of the best on tv ever. Watch the last fight sequence in the first episode.

What fake medieval accents? The cast are all British...

Back calculate a Corman or any other old B movie to todays prices. $10M is actually cheap for a CGI and on location filming requiring constructions and such.

I hadnt looked but where is it "filmed"? Obviously not the back lot in Hollywood...:D

They do the series Yellowstone about 60 mi S of where I live and its "as is" filming its a bit cheaper even with Costner in a main role. Funny given it supposedly takes place on a res near the Yellowstone R. Theres no res near by (N of the I90 corridor and 30 mi from Missoula roughly to confederated tribes maybe) and the river used is the Bitterroot.
