Well, since I have 3 of them right now, and at least one REALLY needs a rebuild, and one has been abused so much I don't know how it's still working, I decided to get the tools and have a buddy show me how to rebuild them. He's done TH400's with borrowed tools, and from what I understand, the TH350's are pretty simple, but you NEED the tools to get it apart.

What tools do I need to properly filet these things, and does anyone have a good source for them?

Thanks

I did mine with basic tools and a few improvised tools.

A good set of snap-ring pliers is a must! No matter how meny you have you will never have the one you need but it might be close. A set of med. size external pliers (with a flat face not the pins) comes in handy as well.

A few ~4" c-clamps is what I used on most of the pistons

For the last piston in the case I used my steering column lock plate removal tool with a piece of threaded rod and some big washers.

A set of picks can also come in handy.

It isn't really how many special tools you need...it is just the more special tools you have the less cursing.

-snap ring pliers

-puller for the front pump (i used a slid hammer with a home made plate)

-0.010" feeler guage to slide in the lip seals

-a jar of vasaline (poor mans assembley lube)

turbo 350's are a cake walk. you can't really put them together wrong. you just might have to take some of it back apart if you forget soemthing. the lip seals takes practice and patience, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to do it blind folded.

shouldn't need clamps for a 350 i don't think the clutch packs are spring loaded like the 400's.

i built my first 350 when i was 18 off of photocopies from the manuels at the library. don't sweat it. just dive in.

Sweet! Thanks for the info. Automatics have always been sort of black magic to me. I get the general idea, but now that I have a spare or twon, and some confidence, I think I'll give it a go. Won;t be for another month or so, but I want be set up when I do it.
