Left my tow rig at Crystal Basin Mountain Resort last week. It worked out great and they were super friendly!

Ill be making my first trip from WA in a few weeks. Planning on parking the tow rigs at Ice House Resort......do I need to make reservations for multiple rigs??

Also whats a good halfway point for camping on the trail?? Plan on doing the whole trail in two days coming out the Tahoe side and hit the hwy back to Ice House.

We are planning to mix up our annual event (NAXJA Sierra Chapter's Sierra Fest ---usually second week of august), and we are looking doing Rubicon/Barret/Hell Hole M-F with a day run somewhere on Saturday and our big Prize Raffle on Saturday night. We would therefore need a area to hold the raffle Saturday and a place to park tow rigs all week between all trails. Any ideas where other than the spillway- plus we don't want to camp there or hold a bbq there? We were thinking the campground on the wentworth loop might work- thoughts on this? Usually 20-25 rigs, could be more maybe 5 to 7 are trailer.

We usually do rubicon, then drive to hermit valley for deer valley, then slick rock , with base camp at hermit valley for tow rigs and the raffle, so something like that would be ideal.

also, for gas, is the closest gas to loon still fresh pond, do any of the resorts have expensive gas closer? and probably georgetown after hell hole

Best bet is to reserve Southfork for $100 a night. 6 nights with 20 rigs = $30/rig for week of parking behind closed gate. Multiple crappers/fire pits and group BBQ area with bear boxes. Couple of loops with bunch of places to park stuff. Been to many a group event there and it has never disappointed.

Ice House Resort usually has fuel and will save you an hour vs Fresh Pond. Another plus - the price will make you feel like you're in Europe
GTown has the convenience mart that serves at about the same rate (or less) than Fresh Pond.

fermentor, thanks this is great info. truly great. Ill happily pay more for gas at ice house resort to have the drive .

Looks like it will be Barret, then rubicon, then hell hole on saturday, so we will end up doing the raffle at hell hole most likely. this is still in the planning stages.

Edit: Southfork is booked for every Saturday In August so that would not work for us. That seems to be a great location though.

Availability of fuel at Ice House can vary. Most recommend checking with them before heading in to allow for "plan B". https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ice-House-Resort-Kayaks-and-Paddle-Boards-Rentals/159108547500682

Bummer that South Fork is booked. It would have been perfect for your plans.

Another option would be some of the open spots by Airport Flat. Forget setting up toward end of week, but you can normally snag some dirt getting there Wednesday or earlier.

We have successfully occupied this https://www.google.com/maps/place/3...7793,305m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 across Airport before bridge. And have had mixed success across the river https://www.google.com/maps/place/3...3573,305m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0. It helps if you have someone "at home" while everyone else is wheeling.

Thanks for the info and the google maps locations.

Its now probably going to be Barret(M-T) /con(W-F)/hell hole(Sat) with the bbq and raffle event at hell hole somewhere, so now we are going to be scouting hell hole's general area, or just have it down at the lake if needed for the day run on Saturday. I have been spending time on google earth going up and down the roads looking for tow rig parking and what not. Ill head out there sometime in the next few months to scout find some good tow rig parking and maybe a spot for the bbq/raffle and what not. It looks like whoever tows will need to be moving around a bunch from barret to the con to hell hole.

may sound like a stupid question.......but is there a sign on hwy 89 that directs you to Tahoma staging area and the road to the rubicon/Cadillac hill? I have come out that way several times. but wouldn't see any signs unless I was looking in my rearview mirror. this year I am trailering my buggy from motel in so lake Tahoe and leaving truck and trailer at Tahoma staging area/parking lot. just trying to cover all basis and not miss the turn. thanks for any info.
