Hi, I have access to a Toy 1 ton axle for free. I have some questions, can I get 5.29 gears and a locker for this? also it's set-up for daul wheels, can I use single wheels? this axle came out of a Toyota truck that was set-up as a mobil home, the axle has been recently rebuilt.

Thanks

yes yo can take the front hubs off a 85 or earlier axle and put them on tere but you will need custom axles.

To be honest I don't know much about it. My uncle took this out of the truck he used to have, he told me he was going to junk it, if I wanted it I could take it. I know the Toyota he had was set-up as a mobil home and it had this axle on it. Would the pumpking fit on a regular 8" axle?

Thanks

I've always wondered that myself, I have seen Toyotas out there with the 1 ton logo in the back of the bed, but they are not 1 tons.

Thanks for the info

Um yes the one-ton axles are FF, yes they use a regular plain jane V6 8" Third. yes the trucks set up with one ton badging are considered a 1-ton its just that the lil 4 popper 2wd 1/2 ton guys put the 1-ton tailgate on there truck cause its Cooler.

They are FF, have a beefed up housing, and v6 3rd member. I thought there were more issues with converting it to 2 wheels though.

Ronnie, go ahead and grab it...can you store it at your uncles house? At the very least that V-6 8" diff is worth grabbing for free.

The good ol' boys call these trucks "wonton" instead of "one ton". I think that Drew Persson is using one of these on his newly beefed 4Runner, he would be the one to ask about the differences.

I have a line on a guy that has brand new old stock toyota dually axles. These axles look way wide though. If you look at a u-hual set up the hub sticks out pretty far.

The guy has quite a few, probably over 15 axles in the wood crate. The more you buy the cheaper they are. I would like the full floater and V6 diff.

They have a weird 6 lug pattern on them too. Save your money, have you been breaking Mini axles? They are not the weak point (if any) on a mini axle, it is the 3rd member and you are not upgrading that.

I heard they are the same width. I thought about it prier to doing a rear IFS axle swap. How in the hell can they have a V-6 diff back in the early days? AFAIK the dually setup is a rim thing. Maybee a beffier axle housing but wouldn't it be spring under? Now I need to find one and tear it down.

I can email pictures of these NOS axles if anybody is interested. From the picture "it appears" that the axles are wider.

No I have not been breaking the axles, but I thought since it's free maybe I could use it. I could upgrade the third since i'm curently running a 4 cyl one.

I'm swaping my '93 2wd short bed cab, motor and trany on to a '88 oneton dually frame. It looks to me that the only things differant from a '87 8" 4x4 axle to a dually axle is it's a FF, brakes are bigger, the lug pattern is a lot bigger, has a sway bar and its spring under. The housing width are the same 51.5" from backing plate to backing plate. It looks like you could unbolt the backing plate on the dually axle and bolt it to a 4x4 axle housing. Then you would have to get 15" rims and you would have a dually 4x4. If I was you I would get and sell it and buy new gears for your truck because it is most likely 3.90 gears. Thats what mine are. The junk yards around me want $500 for just the axle if you can find one. Heres a pic of my dually axle. There are more pics of it on ORC Toyota bbs or I can get better one tomarrow with the tires off.

Figure on dropping about $660 for FF hubs, plus whatever it runs to make your own disc brake setup. Also, remember you should also have at least one shaft and one hub as spares, 'cuz if you destroy one it's not like they're easy to find.

With the single-wheel hubs (from overseas FF FJ-40/55/60/62/75/80 Land Cruisers), the width is roughly 64" wms to wms.
