Hey sj410x it sounds like a great idea.I have the same for mine but a complete drivetrain from a 4x4.I don't have a lot of cash but I can weld and am a tech if you need some help.I want to run dual sm420's in mine but we'll see how things go.I have a p/u so the wheelbase shouldn't be a problem.PM me if you want to talk about any problems you need help with.Seeing as you are probably going to do this before I can I would love to give you a hand and maybe pick up on a few tips.So far the only major concern I've seen is length but who needs a heater anyway.

Is this a 4 or 5 speed transmission?

The earlier (4 speed) manuals are weaker than the later 5 speed units, just so you know. This probably won't be an issue with a vehicle as light as a samurai, but I thought you'd like to know about it.

Also, the 5 5-speed G57 transmissions will bolt onto your engine, if you can find a later 5 spd. 2WD truck to pull one from in a junkyard.

Funny, I've heard dozens of guys yammering on about swapping a 'Yota engine in their Samurai, but I have yet to see the first picture of one. Seen SBC's to Mazda rotary's, but never seen a 22R in one.
Has anyone Actually done this

that's funny.. I've heard about people doing them as well and to this day never seen one completed!!! There is a shop up here called 4Offroad that advertises doing it but the only one I've ever seen is a 22re converted into a jeep (their project buggy) and I still don't understand why you would go to all the trouble of putting one in there!!! oh well... their truck.. not mine

Al at 4offroad did originally have his 22re in a sammy but moved onto a jeep project this year.Check out his web site.It was the green sammy that rolled at Vantage last year and he ran it up to around 260* before finally submitting to the obstacle. If I can find a place to do it I will but I know he had to extend the nose on his 4 inches which is why it looks like a jeep.

I put a 20r into my LJ years ago....... at first I used a '79 4 speed into a toy case and since then I have swapped LOTS of different stuff in there.... if it will fit into an LJ80 it will easily fit in a Sami...

thanx for the replies, I'm going to go ahead and try it. I have a 5 speed from an 84 or85. I made a chevette engine fit into my sj so I don't see why this wouldn't work. Did that guy who ran the toy engine run the stock fan? I'm going to run an electric so I hope to get away without changing the front end.

Heh, there's a guy out here in WA, that did the complete swap, 22r,5speed, tcase w/ split shifters, axles,, etc..etc..etc.. even used the toy power steering, not my choice on steering, but the complete drivetrain out of a 84(i think:question into a zuk,
really clean, and works like a charm..
he is running a 3" body lift to make up for clearence w/ the trannie tunnerl and what not, ....
I'll see if I can get picks...

Toyota 22re installed in a sami... Yeap EFI

Run toy engine/tranny/t-case. Rear toy axle and front toy axles.

I tried the 2wd toy tranny and pretty much ripped the sami t-case out every trip. Toy t--case has many more options. Here is a pic of the engine in... Traded the sami for a cruiser...

I can see the photographer's feet in the picture - is that the radiator cap they have their right foot on? It's about where the hood latch mechanism used to be. Does that set-up run cool enough with that small radiator?

...that's a mighty interesting paint scheme y'got there - any pic's of it?

Yes the radiator is where the hood catch was. It does cool the truck just fine. It has one electric fan . I believe its a 16 or 18 inch fan .
runs about 190 on the trail and on highway
