I recently finished rebuilding my 22r and just got it into the truck. When I fired it up it is only running on the first two cylinders. It is sparking at the end of the plug wires when removed. When you take out the spark plugs from the two non-working cylinders they are gas soaked. There is no backfiring through the carb or out the exhaust.

The engine was done as follows:
bored .20 over
TRD stage 1 cam
weber carb(already on before rebuilding)
header

Since I first started it I have tried the following to fix it:

New wires
New distributor pickup coil
new spark plugs
turned timing 180 (just to try it, wouldn't start)
leaning out carb
double and quadruple checked the timing

The next plan I have is to check the compression and change spark plugs again (third time). Then take off the valve cover to see if the valves are moving.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

thanks for the suggestions, So far it looks like the number 4 cyl was the culpit with no compression. I have readjusted the valves and that didn't change anything so, th head comes off tmmorrow to make sure the valves are sealing. any other ideas would be appreciated, I am supposing that the head has to be the culprit since even if a ring was broken it should still produce some compression. thanks
