OK guys. I am new to this message board and I know I am going to get laughed at, but I figure by talking to you people I can learn a lot! So here is my little 'yota. Pretty much stock College costs $ and so do mods. Do you guys ever go on runs that don't require lockers, lifts, and end up in sheetmetal damage? (I know you are all laughing really hard now! By the way, I am in Tempe, AZ. And about the only place I have been wheelin' is up in Sedona on a little slick rock where they take the Jeep tours. Nothing any 4x4 couldn't handle. I usually role up there with my bro ('97 Tacoma) and my dad ('99 TRD Tacoma). I know we are all a bunch of posers. But someday I will have the $ to turn my baby into an off-roading machine. At least I have something to start with.

There are trails out here that don't require much as far as modifications. Most of the guys on this board don't go on these trails too often. There is Sycamore Creek, the Coves at Saguaro Lake, and some trails in Florence Junction. One of the best modifications I made to my Toy was welding the rear diff and it only cost $15 in beer. I was going to buy a spool and a friend suggested welding the spider gears to see if I would mind the "handling quirks." The only difference I noticed was the slight churping when turning sharp and there hasn't been much increased tire wear since I rotate my tires every 3000 mi. This is something you might consider being on a budget and all. That way you can go in some more difficult trails and it costs less than $30.

Most of us from AZ on this board stick with the gnarly trails. There are a couple stock like guys though.

Hey Nick, there are plenty of easy trails around AZ. I have an old red spiral-bound book written by some old guy.. goes over alot of the older easy trails round here. I'll see if I can dig it up.. stuff like the Crown King run.. Coke Ovens.. Apache Leap.. drop me an email off the board and I'll see if I can send ya in the right direction.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I am already getting some tips from you. If anyone ever rolls on a "not so gnarly trail" or wants a co-pilot that can supply some I am there That would be awesome to be able to do some real off-roading.

This friday morning a few friends and I will probably get together in the florence jct. area and do some exploring. I only know exactly where a few trails are out there, and there are a few I have been to but have no clue how I got there. I normally like to do harder trails, but my friends aren't set up or are not willing to damage their vehicles just yet so we just get together and try to have fun without getting in too much trouble (like I do with the guys on this board.) A couple weeks ago we went exploring and ended up in Superior, Az. So this might be a good time to meet and check out the area. Let me know if you are interested. You can bring your truck or ride along if you like.
