Screenshot from a Facebook group (Rock Buggies). Shame to see. Especially when he mentions that he’s slept in the trailer before. Makes me reconsider going on the Rubicon.

We’ve never had issues the handful of times we’ve parked trucks and trailers there. Though we normally run the trail durning Marlin’s roundup or winter. Might need to consider going in through Tahoe or Wentworth Springs Rd.

I wonder if he was targeted for something? In my 20 years on the trail I have never seen or heard anyone shooting at loon or even near it.
I camp at loon north campground 7-8 times a year and people shot on the north side of the road a lot. Usually on crowded weekends.
Seems like the crowd that camps around there is getting more and more sketchy. Any idea where at loon he parked ? Spillway ? Chalet?

Im up there a fair bit and I have to disagree with this statement. the level of stupid in and around the area is out of control. Mostly folks camped at Red Fir, Loon and Wentworth and mostly Flatlanders with no freaking clue on what they are doing.

I could give you a multitude of real world examples but just trust me when I say its a problem. Im all about the right to bear arms and I carry myself but this area in my humble opinion, is just way to populated to be shooting carelessly.

I had no idea. I never camp at loon, just pass through while headed to the trail. Everytime I'm at the spillway airing down or unloading the trailer it is quiet other than music, and a few drunks.

I agree with Curly that it seems the flatlanders seem to have overrun the place and to them anyplace in the mountains is a shooting range. Having the campgrounds at Union Valley closed might have increased the traffic . having loon north closed all next reason is going to be interesting but might keep some of the idiots away.

There is a road that goes down the mountain behind the Chalet. Lots of people go shooting down there, see sketchy individuals pass by when down there shooting myself. Road comes back onto Loon lake road way down by the old RV dump spot.
Don't know if there is any surveillance on the Chalet, worth a askin.

I agree that Loon is a shit show by Thurs night most summer weekends while the kids are outa school. The amounts of left behind trash is completely outa control.

I know it's not wheelers...and it's technically "not our problem"...but I wonder if we should add Loon shores to an October clean up...just cause.

I am guessing the trash didnt walk there so it got there by some sort of "wheeler" :D

And I will disagree, that it is not our problem. it is everybody's problem. Trash will attract trash, and some will always point the finger at us. I find it is best to be the good guys and deal with it.

Placerville District office has a dumpster that can be used for volunteers that pick up trash in the Forest.
If it is a very large amount and needs to go straight to the dump we can get that taken care of as well.
We pull over a ton of trash each cleanup on Bonetti road every 6-8 weeks.

Sorry..my point is most of the campers aren't wheelers...and the ones that are wheelers, I would hope are more responsible. I hope.

So....This is my trailer. I did nothing messed up to deserve this. I was thinking about sleeping in it, my fiends told me not to,(because of the fumes) I ended up sleeping on a random open deck trailer. It’s a real bummer.

Was it .22 caliber? How many total rounds, 10 exactly?

Sorry to hear of it. I often stay at the Chalet, this concerns me a bit since my kids usually come with. As posted above, maybe whomever was there heard or saw something.

How sure are you it happened up at the Chalet. That's a real bummer if it did happen up there.

I have always parked up there and I have never heard of or had any problems. I may start parking at the trail head.
