I just removed my tranny to change a faulty throw-out bearing and noticed that the input shaft has some play in it. Does anyone know if this is normal? By the way, it is an '82 5spd.

C'mon, nobody's noticed this or knows anything about it? I find that hard to believe.

I am not 100% on this but two people told me that a little play was normal and for that reason make sure your bearing in the crank is in good shape.

Find a toyota factory service manual, it will have all the endplay specs in it. I have the manual for an '81 which include the L52 tranny, if that is what you have email me for the specs.

Thanks for the opinion, I was pretty sure that there is supposed to be some wiggle in there and the pilot bearing is what controls it.
