Currently my k10 has a 305 700r4 and np208. Just as it came from the factory.
I just bought a 2wd suburban for some interior parts. After driving it home I think I might just swap it's drivetrain into my K10. The suburban is 2wd and has a 454 and th400. My question is will my 208 bolt up to the 2wd th400. If not what options do I have. I also have a k30 and think it has a 205 under it. Would this be a better option?

The 208 requires a shorter output shaft that the 2wd 400 has, however, the long input 205 uses the same output shaft as the 2wd 400.

so are you saying that they both will work. I would like to use the 205 but if the 208 will bolt up I will just go that route. If it matters the 205 in my k30 is bolted to a sm465.

it matters.

the th400 2wd output would work if you had a np205 with a short 32 spline input and the right adapter. this is the 8 bolt racetrack case input. the round faced np205 case takes a longer input shaft, and mandates different adapters.

the th400- np208 would work if you (*again) had the right 32 spline np208 input and an np208-th400 adapter.

without the correct adapters, input shafts ( and in the case of a figure 8 np205, some machine work to install the larger bearing in the transfer case) it aint gonna happen.

Grumpy old fart thanks for the help.

Just to help me identify my 205 the firgure 8 has 8 bolt and the other version has 6 bolt. Is that correct?

Figure 8 205, resembles a figure8 race track.

454/TH400/205-do it right and do it once. The 208 has a lower low than the 205 but the aluminum case of the 208 is susceptible to cracking. Also chain driven vs gear drive.
hey... i took that photo...

for the OP, you need to read the 205 thread...

My .02 cents if you have a TH400/205 in your mix of parts and your are looking for beef, use it. NP208 tcases have their place but you typically don't find NP208's in heavily modified trucks. It all depends on what the truck is used for.

We manufacture custom clockable transfer case adapters(two wheel drive to four wheel drive included). If you need help or parts for your setup feel free to send us a PM. Check out the links below for some additional info.
