Take the sluggishness of a 4 cyl in a heavy truck, and then compound it through a slushbox tranny.
You pulled it right out of my head.

The 4 cyl needs all the help it can get when it comes to laying down power and the auto doesnt help in a daily driver. In a dedicated trail rig or crawler it 'might' be ok if you had enough gears (crawl box, 5.88's, etc...)

Finding a torque converter that is the correct stall for the 4 banger is another consideration as well.

It's going to need to be a loose converter, so it can get into it's power band The 727 was not designed to be behind a low power engine. The 904 would be a better choice, but we all know it's not available in a IH pattern.

Like a converter that gets around, if you know what I mean:D

I'm not sure what a loose converter is?
Higher than stock stall speed. Not sure what stock 727 is. Somewhere around 1,600 - 1,800? Looser would be anything higher. I'd guess 2,200 to 2,400 would be about right.:D
