I was driving home yesterday from the trail and on the highway I noticed my transfer cases were getting quite warm. So warm that I could feel the heat around the shifter area. I do know that my shifters aren't 100% sealed off, but there was a fair amount a heat coming off of the cases. FYI I am running dual cases; TX-10 and a Dana 300. I just rebuilt both cases and all the bearing preloads are set correctly and plenty of fluid is in both of them. Anyone else having the same issue? Or am I concerned over nothing?

my '02 is a 4x4 conversion with no insulation and it gets quite warm against my right leg as i drive, regardless of environmental temperature. i'm also running an external b&m cooler. i'd say its pretty normal.

just make sure you didn't run it out of oil. If it's got oil in it, it should be fine.
