Hammers are great if all you want to do is crawl over massive rock structures, and break parts. Glamis, Pismo, and Dumont Dunes are great if you like the sand, and aren't interested in variety. They're also great for dune buggies, which I'm partial to. Ocotillo Wells is part of the Anza Borrego area, as is Truck Haven Hills. This area is very expansive with a variety of terrain, and is in no danger of becoming crowded, even on holiday weekends. This is just how I see it, as well as many others whom I've spoken to.
