I'm going to be visiting my uncle next week to learn to weld... anyone from around the area know where to get a decent price on steel plate and DOM tubing?

Thanks

Do you want scrap or material to build, different sources for both.

I have a fairly good source for the scrap.

scrap source

Do you mind letting me in on your scrap source, or is it a buddy's shop or something... My dad lives in concord.

No one, everyone around here sticks it to you for DOM
But Naylors Metal in Hayward and also Tube service of Melpidis are "ok" just why are you learning to weld on DOM? thats a big waste of money IMO

Action Metal they sell by the pound, mostly 1/4" and above, but lot's of material options. They also sell some new. I paid 0.45 per pound for sq tubing. 0.35 for plate and odd scrap.

For small quantity gotta have it today new steel, I use Design Construction. I called in an order Friday at noon picked up at 3 for:
2 10' 2"x.120 Sq Tube
2 10' 1.5"x.120 Sq Tube
1 10' 2"x.188 band

Cost was hundy out the door. They also sell D-rings cheap, can handle most odd ball fab requests, I had them bend some 2 x 3/8" for 40 There number is 925-372-6622 ask for Cathy.

Your right... I DOM is expensive and I should probably waste other cheaper metal first, I was just wondering in case my uncle and I decide to fab something up, but I guess we could alwasys use HREW...
