Okay, I've taken the liberty of drawing up a very, very tentative itinerary for the "Ultimate Tour, Pirate Style" slated for Summer of 2002. Not knowing a whole lot about some of these places, I may be allotting way too much or way too little time. But, I figure it's better to have a schedule that can be "tweaked" than nothing at all. Some of these stops are just suggestions at this point & need trip leaders. It'll be up to the trip leaders to impose any restrictions necessary on that stop. For example, my stop (#7) is a 2-day truck fest at which I'll be sanctioning the competition mud events. There will also be a show N shine, probably tough truck racing & POSSIBLY a competition rock course. There is no limit on the # or type of vehicles, nor will it be necessary to "register" for this stop in advance. Stop #4 (Die Trying) will most likely have limits on both the # and type of vehicles involved, so it will probably be necessary to "reserve" space on that particular stop.

Here's the schedule so far & feel free to make suggestions to improve this:

(1) June 4th, 2002: Hammers in CA - need trip leader
(2) June 7th, 2002: Highway To Hell in AZ - JackA to lead
(3) June 10th, 2002: Proving Grounds in UT - Moab Austin tentatively scheduled as trip leader
(4) June 12th, 2002: Die Trying in CO - need trip leader
(5) June 15th, 2002: Gilmer, TX - wngrog to lead - no vehicle limits
-Drive 156 miles to Clayton, OK
(6) June 16-17th, 2002: Clayton, OK - wngrog to lead - no vehicle limits
June 18th, drive 178 miles to Disney, OK
(7) June 19-20 Disney OK - Matt Green tentatively scheduled to lead
June 21st, 2002 travel 326 miles to Montgomery City, MO
(8) June 22nd & 23rd: Mud Racing, tough trucking, & more in MO - lead by TEX. No vehicle limits, no max. #, no reservation needed.
June 24th, 2002 travel 322 miles to Attica, IN
(9) June 25th, 2002: Badlands in IN on Troy's Trail lead by Syko and/or Woody
June 26th, 2002 travel 320 miles to Slade, KY
(10) June 27th, 2002: Slade, KY - lead by Syko
June 28th, 2002: travel 354 miles to Monteagle, TN
(11) June 29th, 2002: Monteagle, TN lead by DRM
(12) June 30-July4th, 2002 up to 4 stops in NC - lead by elusive
(13) July 6th, 2002: Big Dogs in VA - need trip leader
(14) July 8th, 2002: Somewhere in Northeast - need trip leader
(15) July 12th, 2002: Paragon, PA - need trip leader
(16) July 15th, 2002: Silver Lake Sand Duens in MI - need trip leader
(17) July 17th, 2002: Trails in MN - possibly lead by Dana 27
(18) July 20th, 2002: Black Hills - lead by ChinLei & WillyMutt (probably in 2 groups)
(19) & (20) July 21-31, 2002 Two stops in Northern Rockies en route to Rubicon - need trip leaders
(21) August 1st, 2002: Rubicon - need trip leader(s)
(22) August 5th, 2002: Oregon and/or Washington - need trip leader(s)
(23) August 8th, 2002: Somewhere in BC - Whizzy scheduled to lead
(24) August 14th, 2002: Somewhere in Yukon - lead possibly by ColdNorth

Picture this whole tour as a giant tag-team effort if you will. Much like the Pony Express or the carrying of the Olympic torch, it won't be up to any one person to make the whole journey. Rather, it will be up to the folks who organize each stop simply to keep the tour moving forward. Participants along the way can opt to hit as few as one stop, or as many as their personal time & budget will allow. Trip leaders will need to take care of logistics such as suggestions of accomodations & meals, and even tracking down potential repair shops & parts stores for those who experience breakage along the way.

So, who's in? <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

And I WILL be there for that one <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Tex, if you're planning on hitting up the Yukon in Mid-August, it's going to be next to impossible to hit snow... We will be able to wheel under daylight until about 11:30 pm though... I really think the Yukon needs to be done either in late October/early November or as close to summer solstice as possible, because if you can be here June 22nd'ish, we can wheel from 4 am until about 2 am in daylight...

As for a leader for proving grounds, I may be able to lead, but can't promise this early. But I can for sure hook you up, if one of you don't plan it already, I was one of the three that scouted and preran the trail, but the 1st who made it (it was the proving run is his homebuilt-hence the name) was kelly Sheets, and I'm sure he would be willing to lead!

Okay, I've penciled in DRM at a trip leader for stop #10 now at Monteagle & have Moab Austin listed as our leader for stop #3 at Proving Grounds. If you guys can't personally be the leader on trail day, that's okay (that goes for the rest of the stops as well). Right now, we're just looking for point people to help with planning & you can assign someone else to lead the actual run if necessary. And we're looking for comments on whether or not there needs to be a limit on the type & # of vehicles at each stop, and if it should be necessary to reserve a spot in advance.

ColdNorth, you wanna lead the last run w/o snow, or would you rather wait & possibly be the jumping off point for a "Fall Tour"??

Another thing, if you guys can't lead a stop along the way, you can still help out. We could use some sponsors to help difray the costs associated with the traveling from stop to stop. If any of you guys have connections to maybe get some discounts at motels or from say Shell Oil, that would be a big help. Cash helps too. OR, if you guys would rather, Cash sponsor $$$ could be donated to a charity (like Friend of the Rubicon for example) at the end of the run rather than being used to help with costs.

I can get some large truck door magnets for sponsor logos. If you guys can come up with some sponsors who'll cough up some cash, we can purchase the magnets & display them on tow rigs as they move from stop to stop, or even on trail rigs if space permits (not enough sheet metal on some of your stuff LOL!).

I'm sure Chinlei and I could organize a couple of trails here in the black hills. We could accomodate more vehicles that way.

Put me down for Gilmer, TX on the 15th and Clayton OK on the 16th and 17th. We can run these two back-to-back.

Both places have mild to wild trails....we can get leaders for any size group and any level vehicle.

Get it!

So noted. May have to back the prior stops up a couple of days as I now have Die Trying the day before Gilmer, TX with no travel/repair time. Will fix that right now.

Okay, now that leaves us a little gap June 18-20 where we could stop somewhere between Clayton, OK & Montgomery City, MO. Possibly Arkansas, Cassville, MO, or Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Cassville & Ft. Wood are both mild & can be done in a day easy. Will need leaders for any of these, or we can leave the gap as-is to allow some touristy stuff and/or repair time.

Also might be able to have a run somewhere in the Deep South squeezed in between Monteagle & the NC stops.

I'll start looking for Good Cheap Places to stay. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> Looks Like I have about 2 weeks of vacation planned next year <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Once we get the list down of places I think we should have a sign in sheet so we know how many people to expect.
Maybe ask Lance if he would set us up a page for this. (You know, all the specs) <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
Just a thought

Agreed. I think Elusive planned on that being one of the highlights of stop #11.

BTW, for those coming to Montgomery City, you will be able to camp on the grounds the night before the event. There's no electric or water hookups, but there are two campgrounds (and a couple of motels) real close. And if we don't find something to do between Clayton & Montgomery City, I'll show you guys around the local wineries up here.

Hot Spring Arkansas, Poteau OK or Disney are all options for the days in between.

Hell, if you need time, ditch the Gilmer stop all together and make it Clayton to Disney to MO.

Disney is a 4x4 park. No complicated guiding needed.

I was thinking Disney might be a good option for the in betweener as well. For now, I think we'll leave the schedule as is & if anyone wants to campaign heavily in favor of something specific for that timeframe we can fill it in later.

More Montgomery City, MO details. Saturday June 22nd will consist of side by side mud drags. 6 classes:
Street Stock
Super Stock
Pro Stock
Women's Pro Altered
Modified
Pro Modified

Sunday will consist of a single lane mud BOG with 5 classes:
Real Street up to 35.0"
Hot Street up to 38.0"
Women's Hot Street up to 38.0"
Outlaw Stock up to 44"
Altered

For those who wish to compete, but have never done so before, there WILL be someplace in that whole schedule where you should fit in pretty much regardless of what you run.

Sunday will also feature Tough Truck racing - probably divided into 2 classes.

Both days will have monster truck exhibitions, monster truck rides, & show N shine.

Competition Rock Crawling is still a possibility at this point for both days as well. The space is there & the promoter wants it. The only reason it wouldn't happen would be if the cost is prohibitive. I'm thinking it will probably happen, but the course might not be too spectacular. We'll see.

If people were driving South from Col you could try and find something in Northern New Mexico...not sure whats there cause Farmington is over the Rockys to the West and Las Cruces is way down South by Mexico.

I think the whole Gilmer, Clayton, Disney, then Missouri deal would be awesome... that would work out quite nicely, since they're all in order... And most of the rooms in those areas are cheap to stay in... I will definitely be willing to help out in anyway that I can, on these stops in between... just lemme know what I can do!

Well, let's put you down to organize the Disney portion for now & take a look at this schedule:

Gilmer, TX to Clayton, OK 156 miles
Clayton to Disney, OK 178 miles
Disney to Montgomery City, MO 326 miles
Mont. City to Attica, IN 322 miles
Attica to Slade, KY 320 miles
Slade to Monteagle, TN 354 miles

That's 7 consecutive stops (all with volunteers to coordinate) with 1/2 day or less driving in between each one. Pretty sweet if ya ask me <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
