You knew I had to ask :D:D:D

Till now I have passed over most of the diesel info threads since they did not apply to me really. But now I am interested for future reference (gotta get used to it as-is first :p )

I assume first steps someone will tell me is temp guages to keep an eye on things... But what comes after that?

I am NOT into going all out on this - it is meant to be a daily driver (2-3 days a week, 70 mile round trip) plus towing duties. If you suggest mild "beginner" upgrades, please let me know what kinds of costs and hassles are involved.

I would like to know what gets better towing power and an increase in fuel economy is ALWAYS a plus.

I will be starting a mpg log immediately so I can get a baseline for fuel consumption right off.

Well? :p

gauges, boost and egt. slide the plate forward for 50 hp. pull off the cat and muffler. i would suggest putting on a straight through one from napa, 40 bucks. dump the air box and go with a bhaf. if you want some more power put in a #10 plat but slide it a bit back from stock to limit it to 80 or so hp and save your clutch. mike

I was gonna ask the same thing :p

Gunracer1 - the tranny was rebuilt 2/10/03 of this year (I have the Aamco receipt) and has 35,000 miles on it currently - should I still mess with it?

"plate" change - what/when/where/how/price?

Guages - where can you find the pillar pods or where else is there to mount them?

If I go spend $1k on this thing off the bat the wife is gonna run over me with it... Gotta eeeeeeaaaasssseeee into this stuff ;)

the fuel plate i am talking about was only on the p7100 pumps, 94 to 98 12 valve cummins. it set the fuel to boost curve on these year trucks. you can bump these trucks up quick and easy buy changing plate profiles. up to 180 rwhp in a race application, in a 215 hp truck

Actually I would join the TDR first and get the dowel pin jig. Ask gunracer about it.

I agree with gunracer. I would do the three gauges a #10 and the 3kgsk. That set up will be kind to your trans.

AGGGGGCCCCKKKK - information overload  :p

So... much... to... digest.....

I may take you up on that plate offer.. let me read up a bit more... looks like the #10 plate can be adjusted to not blow up my tranny :p

BTW - checked out that guy's eBay auctions - $200-$250 for the pillar pods and the 3 guages sound about right?

Thanks for all the help guys :)

Could someone steer me to the "best/cheapest" place to buy a three gauge set?

I searched e-bay for the username that Gunracer posted but couldn't find him.

Also, what are a good brand?
I see mostly autometer, which I assume are good quality.
Are there brands to stay away from?

the plate is easy install the gauges take longer...do it in stages that make sense. ie...if you install the plate upgrade the springs and save yourself some time...all this in under 2 hrs...gauges, about three....take your time.....
