I didn't have any break in time and the first run on my Hi9 was at KOH 2010. Needless to say it burnt the gears up a bit. I still ran them about 8 more races though and they were still going strong. The backlash had worn to about .030 though.
Anyway...I've since replaced with a new ring and pinion and sold the 3rd.
Who needs a spare set of gears to keep in the trailer?
100 bucks takes 'em.
FYI a new ring and pinion for a Hi9 is 400 bucks or more!
