US Army does (at least, they did) <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
You can still find these for decent $ in the papers. They make an awesome trailer for the trail. I've had mine over some pretty tough trails.

I've been looking for the M416s (or M100s)in my area and I can't find one for reasonable money.

So I may be building my own version (sure would like it to be 5 x 5.5" so I can use a spare).

Can't afford one (they are sweet though), so I'll have to build it.

Anyone have any pics of the pivoting pintle?

or the axle assembly....

I realize some will consider this cheesey (me asking for pics), but I seriously can not afford $1400 ( or more).

Charly: Don't take this personal but I would not feel right posting pic's of Waynes design. You could send him and he might just tell you. His e-mail is on the web page.

Back half of a CJ5 w/33's and a SOA.
The axle is the rear D44 with the pumpkin cut out and sleeved with a piece of tubing, front spindles and hubs bolted to the d44 flanges for a full floating axle with big bearings.

Picture was taken before the box was added - a 40x48 Military container for some sort of missle guidance system.

Total cost about $150

Pintle ring came from a trailer supply
Stationary tube is a piece of DOM I had laying around

The rotating inner piece is a chunk of solid stock that fits loosly in the DOM which I had the end threaded to hold the spring

I do not remember where the spring and nut came from

here is a pic. of my $200.00 trailer, with 33s(now has 35s on it), the tub is from a Chevy Luv stepside bed, minus the glass fenders,, and we built the frame from 2x2 box, built the axle from 2x2 1/4" and fabed on some Jeep Model 25 front axle spindles and hubs, using 1980 rear CJ-7 springs and hangers,, and I was able to find a military 360 degree pintal... if you can locate another stepside bed, (the shortbed version) we have another frame already built,, we could sell ya cheap ,also a friend built a trailer he has decided to sell,, sitting on 33s, also with a 360 pintal, same springs and axle, and resembles a Radio Flyer Wagon,, (kind of a flatbed with wooden stake sides,,

Here's my modified M416, sprung-over to match the height of the Cruiser. This is right after my wife and I finished the second stage of the project, since then I've added a couple more features and a few dents as well.

Around here (Co), I've seen 'em in the papers in nice shape for $5-700. I got mine for about the same. If you're going to use it on tough trails, I wouldn't be too concerned about body condition. I've put the fenders on mine through hell and back. I also flush mounted my tailights/reverse lights in the rear "tailgate" since I kept ripping those off too.
