What all has to be done to convert a vacuum transfer case toa manual? I did a search on it but didn't find much.

You need the shift fork for the 2w/4w and the manual linkage for a 3sp transfer case.

Make sure you get the linkage pivot bolt from the tranny.

I converted mine from vacuum to manual a couple years ago. I got the parts used from Warden's in Placerville.

You need the parts described above.

Easy conversion - can do it in a couple hours. Hardest part is cutting the hole in the tranny hump in the right place...

I some times think about going the other way
and converting to a electric shift maybe useing
the pieces from a newer electric shift transfer
case.

I've seen the manual linkage and shift fork parts on ebay go for about $50.

i can bolt a front output cone from a 4 speed no problem right?

the 4 speed cone will fit .............BUT.....the bearings inside are different, you need to make sure you used the cone and race out of the 3 spd case, or the cone and the race out of the 4 spd. housing. Don't mix these up.

By the way Ken, I am refering to the transfer case that you have in your garage that belongs to Dan. I am buying it from him and need to come pic it up. I will get a hold of you sometime next week.

James, we bolted the shift fork out of a 4spd case onto the 3spd case that Kevin bought. You could rob parts from the 4spd cases you have pretty easily. Then you could sell a 4spd case with vacuum shift.

The front output shaft and the 2w/4w shift hub are different on the 3sp and 4sp. I don't know about the bearings; they look the same, but I'm not going to take them apart to make sure.
